The William Woods University volleyball team collected its first win of the 2011 season Tuesday night. The Owls earned a road victory at Avila University. WWU defeated the Eagles 3-1 (25-23, 18-25, 25-13 and 25-23).
A balanced attack and aggressive blocking by the front line proved to be the key to the WWU win. Junior
Alicia Green (Midlothian, Texas) had a team-high 16 kills in the win over the Eagles. Green added four blocks in the win. The Owls also received 13 kills from
Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Texas). Fleming also had four blocks for the Owls.
Freshman Bailey Peterson (Cedarburg, Wis.) added 11 kills and 12 digs in a winning effort.
Amanda Henley (Jefferson City, Mo.) led the Owls with a team-high 20 digs.
William Woods (1-4) returns to action this weekend at the MidAmerica Nazarene University Tournament. The Owls play University of St. Mary at 7 pm on September Friday. They play Ottawa University and MidAmerica Nazarene University at 11 am and 3 pm on Saturday.
