HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The William Woods University softball team continues its spring break road swing with revenge on the mind as the Owls are set to take on #16-ranked William Carey University on Wednesday. WWU battled the Crusaders in the Gulf Coast Invitational, with the Owls falling by a 1-2 scoreline in seven innings. The teams will play a doubleheader on Wednesday, with the first pitch slated for 4 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Owls collected five hits against the William Carey pitching staff, but were unable to come out victorious on the afternoon, falling 2-1 in the Gulf Coast Invitational. The Crusaders opened the scoring in the top of the fourth, with WWU answering in the bottom half of the fifth. William Carey would immediately answer with one in the sixth to salt the game away.

The Owls come into Wednesday's game with an 8-9 record and a two-game winning streak, including a 2-1 win over #5-ranked Brenau University on Sunday. 
Lindsey LeCuru leads William Woods offensively, posting a .404 batting average on the year with five RBI and seven doubles. She's collected eight walks on the year as well. 
Caroline Sicht is also solid for the Owls, with her .373 batting average bolstered to a .608 slugging percentage courtesy of her four doubles, 1 triple and two HR on the year. She has collected a team-high 12 RBI on the year, as well as one walk. 
Kelsey Schulte also has a pair of HR for WWU on the 2012 campaign, collecting 11 RBI.
Schulte is also the chief pitcher of the Owls rotation, posting a 4-3 record through 48.1 innings of work on the season in nine appearances. She has struck out 41 batters and posted a 2.32 ERA. 
MacKenzie Bowden is also strong in the circle for WWU, with a 3-2 record in six appearances, and four complete games on the year. She has gone 35.0 innings on the rubber for WWU, posting a 2.40 ERA and striking out 42 batters while issuing just eight walks. 
Becca Schemmer has also seen a fair bit of action for the Owls, working 34.1 innings over two appearances. She has struck out 22 batters on the year.
Quick Look - William Carey
The Crusaders have been very stout on the 2012 campaign, posting a 18-2 record through the first month of action. Offensively, they are led by Hannah Cook-Kelley, who is batting .462 on the year with a .533 on-base percentage. She has mustered nine extra-base hits for a slugging percentage of .750, with one of the team's four HR on the season to go with four doubles and four triples. Sarah Beckman is also strong at the dish, averaging .368 through 20 games with five doubles, two triples and two HR.
Pitching is where William Carey has excelled, however, posting a minuscule 1.29 ERA as a staff through 135.1 innings of work. Alyssa Boutwell is the workhorse of the staff, with 12 appearances to her credit and a 8-2 record. She has pitched eight complete games and two shutouts on the year, although she has the highest ERA of the trio of pitchers at 1.59. She has struck out 58 batters on the year, walking just 17, and has not allowed a homerun on the season. Alli Mccaleb has assembled a perfect 7-0 record, going the distance in six games for the Crusaders and posting a 1.06 ERA.
