FULTON, Mo. -- The William Woods University gym will hardly be silent over the course of the summer, as both the men's basketball and women's basketball teams will host skills camps. Women's basketball head coach
Dan Chapla will host a residential camp June 24-28, tailored for girls entering grades 5-10 in the fall of 2012, with men's basketball head coach
Nick Totta hosting a non-residential camp July 9-13 for boys entering grades 4-12 in the fall of 2012.
The women's basketball camp will feature fundamental skills instruction and competitions during the day reinforced by league play in the evening, allowing campers to apply the teaching in a game setting. The player to coach ratio for this camp is set at 10-1, with Chapla, members of the Owls coaching staff and local high school coaches serving as camp staff. Additionally, members of the WWU team will serve as camp counselors and assistant coaches.
In addition to the instruction from the camp staff, campers will get a true taste of college life throughout the week by staying in WWU student housing and eating meals in Tucker Hall. A commuter rate is also available, including camp instruction and two meals per day of the camp.
Cost for the residential camp is $290 per player, with a team rate of $275 per player available for groups of eight or more players from the same school. The commuter rate is $185 per player, with no team discount. Enrollment is limited to the first 100 players.
The men's basketball camp will include fundamental skills instruction, competitions and league play as well, structured in a non-residential setting. Emphasis throughout the camp will be placed on improving individual offensive skills. Totta will lead the camp staff, which includes top area coaches as well as members of the WWU squad as counselors and assistant coaches.
The player to coach ratio for the men's camp is also set at 10-1, allowing for a stronger focus on individual skill development. Enrollment at the camp will be limited to 72 players. The cost per player is $80, with a team rate of $70 per player available for groups of eight or more from the same school. Children of WWU faculty and staff will receive a $10 discount on enrollment for the men's basketball camps.
