Taylor Baumhoer and
Duarte Melo were named William Woods Athletics Student-Athletes of the Month for March 2026. Both athletes put up amazing numbers throughout the month, capped off by at least one Heart of America Athletic Conference Player of the Week Award.
Baumhoer, a sophomore hurler for coach
Tracy Gastineau's softball program, competed to a 5-1 record on the month tallying 44 k's in 49 innings pitched. Taylor went the distance in 5 games, allowing only 19 hits in the month. The highlight of the month for Baumhoer was a one-hit complete game shutout over Heart of America Athletic Conference Opponent MidAmerica Nazarene.
Melo, a second-year player for the nationally ranked men's tennis program, dominated the court in the month of March. The senior top man won seven of nine individual matches, six of seven doubles matches while the team went 7-2 in March. Duarte won multiple Hear of America Conference Player of the Week Awards as well as a NAIA National Player of the Week award on March 17th.
William Woods University Student-Athlete of the Month Honors are awarded to the student-athletes who received the most votes. Each month, athletes are nominated by faculty, staff and school personnel. These nominees are placed into the voting system and are selected based on the results of a panel of seven senior members of the athletic department.
