Volleyball Ends The Grand View University Tournament Winless

Becker posted three double-doubles in four matches this weekend.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The William Woods University volleyball team went winless this weekend as they dropped its second five-set match of day, this time falling to Ashford University 3-2 (25-19, 28-26, 21-25, 12-25, 7-15) on Saturday afternoon.

William Woods (12-18) could not take advantage of a 2-0 set lead, as Ashford University (15-14) battled back, taking the final three sets to force the Owls to go 0-4 on the weekend.  

Sophomore Emily Becker continued her impressive play over the weekend, as she earned her third double-double of the tournament by posting a team-high 15 kills to go with 20 digs. The Belleville, Ill., native collected 62 digs and 51 kills in four matches this weekend.

Becker was one of three Owls to post double-digit kills on Saturday afternoon, as junior Kristen Bauer collected 11, while freshman Stephanie Davis posted 10.

The WWU defense added 112 more digs to its already remarkable dig total this season. Junior Abbie O'Mara's 35-dig performance paced the Owls on the day, as Sara Stevenson (14), McKenna Hisel (13), and Shelby Hinshaw (11) joined O'Mara and Becker in the double-digit dig category.

Stevenson also handed out 53 assists to go along with her 14 digs, to earn her third double-double of the tournament. The freshman setter now has a team-high 18 double-doubles for the year.

William Woods will jump back into American Midwest Conference play on Monday night, as they travel to Columbia, Mo., to take on Stephens College. First serve for the match is set for 7 p.m.
