FULTON, Mo.—The William Woods men's soccer team travels to St. Louis, Mo., to take on Harris-Stowe State on Saturday. Kick-off will start at 3:00 p.m.
The Owls (5-5; 2-1 AMC) are coming off a tough 2-1 overtime loss to no. 17 Hannibal-LaGrange University. The game was scoreless in the first half, even though the Owls had a shot advantage of 8-6 and both
Sebastian Burich and
Alan Matthew hit the crossbar, just missing scoring opportunities for the Owls.
In the second half, Joao Junqueira got the scoring started, scoring in the 57
th minute and put the Trojans up 1-0. The Owls, however, responded in the 69
th minute, as
Kyle Konigsberg scored his first goal on the season on an assist of
Joao Paulo Parra to make it a 1-1 game and put the momentum back on WWU side.
The teams' continued to search for the game winner throughout the final 45:00 minutes, but at the end of 90:00 minutes of play, the game remained 1-1 and it was off to overtime. In the first OT, the defenses for both teams' shut down the offenses and it looked as if the game was headed for a second overtime, until with .39 seconds left, Junqueira struck again, scoring his second of the game and shocked the Owls defeating them by one goal.
WWU outplayed and outshot the Trojans, having a 20-10 shot advantage, including holding HLG to just two shots in the second half.
Against Harris-Stowe, the Owls hold a record of 9-7-2, and will look to get its offense going on the road where the team has been outscored 10-3 on the season, going 1-3 over those four games.
Harris-Stowe (1-5-3; 0-2-2 AMC) has played four American Midwest Conference games thus far, falling to Mid-Continent (1-0) and Hannibal-LaGrange (4-2), but has tied no. 20 Columbia College (1-1) and Missouri Baptist (0-0).
The Hornets are tough at home, as they are 1-1-3 on the season with their home victory coming against Blackburn College by the score of 6-0.
On offense, the Hornets are led by Cory Loberg scoring four goals and totaling 16 shots. Adam Fecher and Tarik Sehovic each have three goals and two assists on the year, and both have totaled 11 shots as well. In net, Blake Westerman has a goals against average of 1.350 and has allowed just nine goals over 600:00 minutes of play.
