FULTON, Mo. -- Ilissa Facchini drove in six runs in two games to help the William Woods University softball team earn an American Midwest Conference sweep of Harris-Stowe State on Thursday afternoon.
The pair of victories evens up William Woods (12-12, 5-5 AMC) record both overall and in conference play. The Owls have now won five of their last six games, outscoring their opposition 35-6.
Facchini did the most of her damage in game one, as bases clearing double drove in three runs in the bottom of the fourth to help WWU take the first contest in Thursday's twin bill, 9-0.
The California native added a two more RBI's in game two, as her RBI single capped off a five-run second inning as the Owls took care of Harris-Stowe (5-22, 1-10 AMC), 12-0.
WWU exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning in game one, to help MacKenzie Bowden approve to 6-5 on the year. The junior had her four-game double-digit streak of snapped, as the righty collected only six strikeouts in the five inning mercy win.
Kacey Scharnhorst and Kristy Pluchinski each added an RBI in the game, as the Owls won 9-0.
In game two, a quartet of Owls (Facchini, Megan Cooper, and Sam Parsons) each had a pair of RBI's to help the Owls take a 12-0 victory in five innings of play. Sicht connected on her second home run of the season, with a two-run shot in the top of the third inning.
Becca Schemmer was able to keep pace with Bowden in the win total, as she shut down the Hornets through five innings, collecting two strikeouts.
William Woods will continue its six-game, three-day stretch tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Benedictine University at Springfield. The Bulldogs are 3-9 in the AMC this season, and are 5-15 overall on the year. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
