FULTON, Mo. -- Kristy Pluchinski hit a pair of home runs on Friday afternoon to help the William Woods University softball team sweep Benedictine University at Springfield.
Pluchinski drilled a solo shot in each game, giving the redshirt senior three total home runs on the year, taking over the team lead from Lindsey LeCuru.
MacKenzie Bowden earned a pair of victories on the day, as she shut down the Bulldogs14-0 in game one, by striking out nine in a five-inning mercy shutout. Bowden replaced Becca Schemmer in game two, as she threw 1.2 scoreless innings, as gained the victory in the Owls 4-3 walk-off win.
William Woods (14-12, 7-5 AMC) got three home runs from Shelby LeCuru, Caroline Sicht, and Pluchinksi in game one as the Owls defeated Benedictine University at Springfield (5-17, 3-11 AMC) 14-0.
LeCuru led off the game with a solo shot in the first, while Pluchinski drilled a solo shot in the third inning, and Sicht blasted her third home run in four games with a two-run homer in the top of the fourth.
In game two, Becca Schemmer was slated a 2-0 lead as WWU would score twice in the bottom half of the second inning with a Pluchinski home run and a Shelby LeCuru RBI single.
Schemmer allowed the Bulldogs to score in the top of the fourth, but the Owls reclaimed their two-run cushion in their half of the fourth inning with a Sicht sacrifice fly.
Benedictine University at Springfield would chase Schemmer out of the game as they plated two runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 3-3.
Bowden would come in a shut down the Bulldogs to set up Kacey Scharnhorst's walk-off single to give the Owls the 4-3 victory.
William Woods will be back in action tomorrow as they conclude its six-game, three-day stretch with a doubleheader against AMC foe Stephens College. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
