FULTON, Mo. – Lindsey Lecuru's eighth inning walk-off home run helped the William Woods University softball team close out the regular season by splitting a pair of games against no. 5-ranked Williams Baptist College.

LeCuru had an amazing day at the plate, as she went 3-for-7 with two home runs and three RBI's in the Monday afternoon doubleheader.

William Woods (19-13, 12-6 AMC) found themselves in a pitching duel in game one, as the top two pitchers in the American Midwest Conference with MacKenzie Bowden and Williams Baptist College (36-4, 16-2 AMC). Each ace battled pitch-for-pitch over seven innings as neither gave up a run, but Hendrix served up a solo walk-off homer to LeCuru with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to help the Owls upset the Lady Eagles 1-0.

Bowden struck out 11 batters over eight shutout innings, while her counterpart fanned 10 Owls. It was the 11th victory on the year for the Hartsburg, Mo., native, and she finishes the regular season with an ERA of 1.28.

Game two featured more offense, as Williams Baptist was able to tag four runs on WWU starter Becca Schemmer, as William Woods suffered the 4-2 defeat, ending its nine-game winning streak.

After being shut out in game one, the Lady Eagles wasted little time to get on the board in the finale, as they plated a run in the second inning, before adding three more runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, giving them a commanding 4-0 lead.

Just like in game one, Lindsey LeCuru provided all the offense for William Woods, as she hit a two-run opposite field home run in the top half of the sixth, pulling them with in two. But Shelby Anderson was able to close the door in the seventh inning to maintain the victory for Williams Baptist.

William Woods will return to action on Friday as they will host Hannibal-LaGrange in the first round of the AMC Tournament. The Owls must defeat the Trojans twice this weekend to advance in the tournament.
