Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- The William Woods University volleyball team won its first match in Springfield, Missouri, on Tuesday night, as the Owls defeated Peru State in four sets (25-17, 24-26, 27-25, 25-21), to extend its winning streak to four games, but host and No. 20-ranked Evangel University won in the nightcap, as they defeated WWU in three (16-25, 17-25, 15-25) sets.
William Woods 3 Peru State 1After making quick work of Peru State (9-9; 0-3 Heart of America Athletic Conference) in the first set (25-17), the Bobcats evened up the match at 1-1, after winning the second set 26-24. The Owls (11-9; 2-0 AMC), however, won the all important third set 27-25 and took care of business in the fourth, as they closed out the set and the match, winning 25-21.
WWU was led by the freshman duo of
Abbi McKnelly and
Abby Ferguson, who tied for the team lead in kills with 12 each. Junior
Emily Becker also had a strong outing on Tuesday night, as the Belleville, Illinois, native, totaled 11 kills, an attack percentage of .292 and added 16 digs.

Brittney Engelbrecht contributed 44 assists and 18 digs, while senior libero
Abbie O'Mara led the team defensively, having a team-high 20 digs.
No. 20 Evangel University 3 William Woods 0 In the nightcap, the Owls ran into a tough Evangel University (13-4; 2-1 HAAC) team, who were able to sweep the Owls in straight sets (16-25, 17-25, 15-25).
Becker had another strong outing for the Owls, as she totaled a team-high 10 kills and added seven digs. Engelbrecht posted another double-double on the year, having 26 assists and 12 digs, while O'Mara led WWU with a team-high 19 digs.
The Owls will now return to AMC action this Saturday, as the travel to Henderson, Tennessee, to take on Freed-Hardeman University. First-serve is set for 2 p.m.
