FULTON, Mo.—William Woods University head men's and women's tennis coach
Lauren Meier has announced her third signing for the upcoming 2015-16 season, as Christian Barbieri de Peray is set to join the Owls next year.
"First, I would like to thank President and Founder of playintheUS.com, Cintia Tortorella, whom I've had the pleasure of working with for several years now," said Meier. "Cintia has sent me many exceptional players, with Christian being one of them."
She added, "I'm very excited to have Christian compete for William Woods in its inaugural season. He brings very high-level experience and I have no doubt that he will serve as a major asset for his team and program."
Barbieri, a Buenas Aires, Argentina, native, ended the year in the under-18 year old junior competition as the No. 7 nationally ranked player in Argentina, after winning the G2 national tournament and making the finals of the G1 national tournament.
In the under-16 junior competition, he ended the year with a No. 4 ranking and reached the semifinals of the masters tournament in Paraguay. He also played in two qualifier rounds in Bolivia, Sucre in 2011 and in Carcas, Venezuela, in 2012.
Christian is the son of Maria Cristina de Peray. While at William Woods, he plans on majoring in Accounting.
