FULTON, Mo. –After taking the weekend off, the William Woods University volleyball team will return to action on its home court, as Benedictine College will pay a visit for a 7:00 p.m. first serve.
The Owls (18-10; 8-1 AMC), will take a break from its American Midwest Conference part of play, for a rematch against the Ravens of Benedictine College. WWU defeated BC earlier this season at the Mid-America Nazarene University tournament in three straight sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-21).
In William Woods' last outing the team cruised past St. Louis College of Pharmacy in straight sets (25-21, 25-19, 25-11), to collect its eighth AMC win on the year. As a team, the Owls recorded a game-high 45 kills, with an attack percentage of .334.
Stephanie Davis guided WWU on the night, as the junior tallied a team-high 13 kills and ended the night with an attack percentage of .474, while
Emily Becker chipped in eight kills.
Abby Ferguson and
Lauren Rodewald also contributed seven and six kills a piece, respectively, while Tori Wiley added five.
Brittney Engelbrecht, not only led the team with a game-high 34 assists but also collected a team-high 12 digs, while
Shelby Hinshaw gathered 10 digs.
Becker, who has paced the Owls offensively and has played a huge role the entire season, pushed her season total in kills up to 320 and is averaging 3.3 per set. The senior also has amassed 260 digs, which is third best on the team and second on the team in blocks with 65.
Davis and Rodewald also have been two players the Owls look for on the offensive side, as they have combined for 472 kills, while Davis leads the team with an attack percentage of .277.
WWU setter,
Brittney Engelbrecht has played an enormous part of the team's success on the year, as the sophomore has jumped over the 1,000 assists mark on the season. Her 1,004 assists is second best in the AMC and ranks her 9
th in the NAIA. She also leads the team from the service line with 30 aces.
Defensively, Hinshaw has proved to be someone the Owls look to lead in the back row, as the junior has gathered a team-high 320 digs on the season.
Benedictine College comes into the match-up with a 9-15 record and still hunting for its first win in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (0-8).
The Ravens are currently on a three game win streak, as the team 3-0 this last weekend, defeating Johnson and Wales University, AMC foe Stephens College and Central Christian College.
Camila Aruajo, leads the Ravens with 174 kills, while Alli Dalton has contributed 121 digs. Taylor Garner has handed out 543 assists and Erin Daly has gathered 273 digs on the year.
