Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ga.—The No. 19-ranked William Woods University softball team suffered two tough losses on Saturday at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, as the Owls fell to (RV) Corban University 2-1 and (RV) Campbellsville University, 4-2 in the Silver Championship Bracket.
"It was a tough day at the plate, but we hit the ball extremely hard in the second game," said head coach
Tracy Gastineau. "We left a lot of runners on base today and that is going to cost us in the long run, especially playing good teams like we have seen here.
Beth Begemann and
Julie Scheer had great at-bats in each of the games for us."
She added, "In the first game, we didn't get a sacrifice bunt down and that is something we consistently work on and is a fundamental and critical part of the game. We will continue to learn valuable lessons to get us better prepared for American Midwest Conference (AMC) play."
(RV) Corban University 2 No. 19 William Woods University 1Corban University (12-3), jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, as Anne Binschus hit a two run homer. The Owls (3-7) got one of those runs back in the top of the third, but couldn't make the comeback complete, as Corban held on for the one run victory.

WWU totaled eight hits in the game, led by
Sydnae Hatton with two, while on the rubber, senior
Julie Scheer took the loss.

(RV) Campbellsville University 4 No. 19 William Woods University 2WWU advanced to the Silver Championship Bracket on Saturday night and they went toe-to-toe with the Lady Tigers (5-1).

Campbellsville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second and were able to extend its lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third, after scoring three runs.

WWU continued to battle, however, as Begemann hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh, her first of the season, which cut the deficit down to two runs. Another single following the home run would bring the tying run to the plate, but the Lady Tigers were able to retire the Owls with a fly-out and hold on for the win.

The Owls weekend series will continue tomorrow bright and early, as they will take on AMC newcomer Lindenwood University-Belleville on the consolation side of the bracket. First-pitch will be thrown at 9 a.m. (8 a.m. CT). The winner will advance to the consolation finals at 1 p.m. (12 p.m. CT).

The Lady Lynx (1-3), picked up its first win on the season this morning, as they defeated Georgia Gwinnett, 4-1. The team was led by the pitching display from Taylor Winn, who allowed two hits in 7.0 innings of work and struck out seven batters.

In the nightcap, LU-Belleville took on No. 2-ranked William Carey University and nearly pulled a monumental upset, but William Carey held on for the 5-4 victory.
