Owls Look To Continue Winning Streak Against Hannibal-LaGrange

Scheer, leads the way for the Owls bating .438 from the plate on the season
FULTON, Mo. - The (RV) William Woods University softball team looks to push their four game winning streak to six, with a doubleheader on Friday, as the team hosts Hannibal-LaGrange. First-pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
The Owls (9-10; 2-0 AMC), are coming off a doubleheader sweep over Benedictine University at Springfield, Monday afternoon, as the team won both games 8-0 in five innings.
 
In game one, starter Allison Waskow picked up her fourth win on the year, as she gave up two hits, struck out six, and only walking two in five innings of work.
 
Offensively, Hannah Campbell led William Woods, as the sophomore was 2-for-2 with two RBI's, one run scored, and one walk. The two through five hitters, Sydnae Hatton, Kacey Scharnhorst, Emily Murphy, and Caroline Sicht, combined to go 6-for-11, with four RBI's, and one run scored to help guide the Owls to the 8-0 (5 inning) victory.
 
In game two, the Owls continued to stay hot as the team won 8-0 (five innings), for the second consecutive game.
 
Both offensives got off to a slow start, as the Owls scored the only run through the first three innings in the first. However, things would change in the bottom of the fourth as the WWU scored seven runs on five hits.
 
Murphy led the way for the Owls offense, as she totaled two hits in three at-bats, with three RBI's and one run scored. Campbell added two RBI's, while Scharnhorst and Alexi Cavins chipped in one RBI a piece.
 
Bre Logan set the table on the rubber as, the Columbia, Missouri, native, pitched a perfect game over 5.0 innings, while striking out seven Bulldogs to pick up her fourth win on the season.
 
WWU offense is hitting .295 as a team, with a slugging percentage of .394. The team has amassed 146 hits, 21 doubles, five triples, six homeruns, and 74 RBI's on the season.
 
The Owls have five hitters hitting over .300, which includes, Julie Scheer leading the way hitting .438, Murphy .431, Cavins .333, and Hatton and Campbell both hitting .327.
 
WWU's pitching staff now owns an ERA of 3.79 in 122 innings pitched, while opponents are hitting just .257 against the Owls pitching staff.
 
Waskow (4-5) is leading the pitching staff in ERA of 3.22 in 12 games, while Scheer (2-3) owns an ERA of 5.15 in six games and Logan (3-2) has an ERA of 3.99 in eight games.
 
With the two wins over Benedictine University at Springfield, the Owls now own a season long four-game winning streak.
 
Hannibal LaGrange, 6-10, will be playing in their first two conference games of the season. The Trojans are coming into this game hitting .280 (117-for-418), totaling 19 doubles, one triple, and three homeruns on the season as a team.
 
Gabby Akright is leading the offense, batting .410 (16-for-39) with five doubles and four RB'sI. The Owls pitching staff will also have to watch out for Shelby Miller and Megan Becker who are batting .396 and .372 respectively.
 
The Trojans pitching staff holds an ERA of 4.40, as they have given up 93 runs in 103.1 innings pitched, 30 doubles, six triples and six homeruns this season.
 
Bobbie Henderson (3-4) is leading the way for HLG with an ERA of 3.26 in 43.0 innings pitched. She has also struck out 22 and walked a team high 17.
 
Katy Akins (3-3) owns an ERA of 3.90 as she allowed 10 doubles, one triple, and team high four homeruns.
