Softball Hosts Lyon College On Saturday In Its Annual "Think Pink" Game

Sicht has moved her average up to .298 on the year and leads the Owls with five home runs.
FULTON, Mo.—After splitting doubleheader action against Williams Baptist College on Friday afternoon, the William Woods University softball team will look for a big sweep against Lyon College on Saturday. First-pitch will be thrown at 1 p.m.

Saturday's outing against the Scots (22-13; 16-4 AMC), is the annual "Think Pink" game. The team will be selling t-shirts for $10.00 each and taking donations, with all profits going towards a breast cancer organization.

Prior to the game beginning, Elaine Copper, the mother of senior Megan Cooper, will be throwing out the first pitch for the games. Elaine is a breast cancer survivor, as she has been cancer free for the last 14 years.

The Owls (18-19; 7-5 AMC), are coming off a doubleheader split against Williams Baptist College on Friday, as the team earned a comeback, 9-8 victory (9 innings), in game one against the Lady Eagles, but WBC took the finale, 7-3.

In the win, the Owls scored nine runs on 15 hits and won the game in the home half of the ninth, scoring two runs on three hits, capped off by Hannah Campbell's single to right, which scored Macy Wierschem, who reached base on a walk.

On the year, William Woods has a team batting average of .287 and are led by Emily Murphy's .348 average (32-for-92), while adding 10 runs scored and 18 RBI. Senior Kacey Scharnhorst has upped her season average to .333 (36-for-108), and currently leads the team in triples (six) and RBI (33).

Campbell is third on WWU with a .317 average and continues to be a big threat when on base, as she has scored a team-high 27 runs and stolen 20 bases. Sydnae Hatton, a Centralia, Missouri, native, is batting .302, while Caroline Sicht has inched closer to the .300 mark, as the senior holds a .298 average, but does
lead the team with five home runs.

On the rubber, WWU has a team ERA of 3.37 and are led by Canton, Illinois, native, Allison Waskow, as she is 7-10 on the year, with a 2.49 ERA in 112.2 innings pitched. The freshman hurler has struck out a team-high 96 batters, while opposing hitters are batting just .249.

Bre Logan, meanwhile, a Columbia, Missouri, native, is 7-6 on the season, with a 4.07 ERA in 96.1 innings and has struck out 73 batters in 96.1 innings of work.

Lyon College, sits atop the American Midwest Conference (AMC) standings, as they have won seven out of their last nine games. The Scots split with Park University on Friday afternoon as well, dropping game one 5-0, but responded with a shutout of their own in game two, winning 4-0.

At the dish, Lyon is batting .320 as a team and have been led by Savannah Graham's .354 average (29-for-82), while adding 25 runs scored and 13 RBI. Stephanie Bagwell, holds a .354 average (28-for-79), while Savannah Fuller has hit her way to a .346 average (36-for-104), with four home runs and is tied with Kristen Blagg, who is batting .338, with 20 RBI.

Yumiko Hiroto is batting .325 with one home run and 17 RBI, while Haley Huffstuttler and Stephanie Haft are tied with a .323 average and have combined for 27 runs scored and 30 RBI.

Inside the circle, the Scots are led by its ace, Ashten Welch, who is 11-6 in 18 appearances and owns a 3.11 ERA in 92.1 innings pitched. Nicole Sanders, has an ERA of 3.75, to go along with her 8-5 record in 87.2 innings pitched and has struck out a team-high 62 batters.
