Softball Searches For Two Important AMC Wins Against Freed-Hardeman On Friday

In the last six games, Hatton is batting a team-high .545 (12-for-22).
HENDERSON, Tenn.—The William Woods University softball team will look to inch closer toward the top of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) standings on Friday afternoon, as the Owls pay a visit to Freed-Hardeman University. First-pitch will be thrown at 2 p.m.

The Owls (20-21; 9-7 AMC), are coming off another 1-1 split against Columbia College at Backer Sports Complex, as the team fell 5-3 (8 innings) in game one, but responded strongly in game two, totaling a season-high 13 runs on 17 hits and were able to hang on for the 13-10 win.

In the last six games (3-3), the teams' offense is batting an astounding .403, as they have totaled 39 runs scored, 18 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 37 RBI. The pitching staff, meanwhile, has a 3.65 ERA in 46.0 innings of work and have combined to strike out 30 batters.

Offensively, WWU is led by Sydnae Hatton's .545 average (12-for-22), while adding a .682 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .565. Catcher Macy Wierschem is batting .471 (8-for-17), while Hannah Campbell has hit her way to a .458 average (11-for-24), while adding six RBI and three stolen bases.

Brailee Schulte, a Jefferson City, Missouri, native, is hitting .450 (9-for-20) and has scored a team-high eight runs. Shelby LeCuru, meanwhile, continues to swing the bat well, having a .400 average (8-for-20) over the last six games, while the senior duo of Caroline Sicht and Kacey Scharnhorst are batting .391 and have combined for eight runs scored, one home run and 10 RBI.

Inside the circle, Allison Waskow and Bre Logan both have an ERA of 3.65 in 23.0 innings pitched. Waskow is 1-1 in her last three appearances and has struck out 14 batters, while Logan, a Columbia, Missouri, native, is 2-2 and has struck out a team-high 16 hitters.

On the year, Emily Murphy leads the offense with a .361 average (39-for-108), and has scored 13 runs, while adding 10 doubles, three triples and 24 RBI.

Campbell, a Russellville, Missouri, native, is batting .347 from the leadoff spot in the lineup and still leads the Owls with 29 runs scored and 21 stolen bases, while Hatton has upped her average to .336 and tallied 18 runs scored.

Scharnhorst, a St. Peters, Missouri, native, holds a .331 average, but leads the team in triples (six) and RBI (36). Sicht, has moved above the .300 mark in average (.303), while totaling 11 doubles and a team-high six home runs.

On the rubber, Waskow, leads the team with a 2.72 ERA in 128.2 innings pitched and has earned eight wins, while striking out a team-high 104 batters. Logan, is 8-7 on the year, with a 3.81 ERA in 110.1 innings of work, has struck out 84 batters, while opposing hitters are batting just .235.

Freed-Hardeman (22-13; 14-6 AMC), currently sits in fourth place in the AMC standings, as they are just three games up on the Owls, who are in seventh.

The Lady Lions have won three out of its last four games, but saw its three game winning streak come to an end against Martin Methodist in its last time out, as they fell 10-5.

On the year, FHU is batting .350 as a team and are led by Kamara Trice's .434 average, while totaling a team-high 40 runs scored, 12 home runs, 44 RBI and a slugging percentage of .868. Caitlyn Carter, is second on the team with a .413 average and has totaled 38 hits, while Lauren Bradley is hitting .402 and is tied for second with 45 hits.

Tied with Bradley in hits is Jessica Weeks, who is hitting .378 in 30 starts, while Mallory Spurlock is second on the Lady Lions with three home runs.

On the rubber, Trice leads the quartet of pitchers, as she is 9-3 with a 3.27 ERA in 75.0 innings and has struck out 31 batters. Spurlock, is second on the team in wins (eight)
and ERA (4.07), but is first in innings pitched (84.1) and strikeouts (28).
