PARKVILLE, Mo.—The William Woods University softball team will return to American Midwest Conference (AMC) play on Friday afternoon, as the Owls will pay a visit to rival Park University for a doubleheader. First-pitch will be thrown at 2 p.m.
The Owls (15-14; 4-0 AMC), are coming off a 1-1 showing against MidAmerica Nazarene University in its last time out, as the team dropped game one 5-2, but responded with a 5-1 win in the finale, behind the pitching performance of freshman
Bre Logan.
With the win in game two, the Owls have won four out of its last six games and 10 out of the past 14 on the diamond.
During the last 14 outings, the offense is batting .317, while on the rubber, the trio of
Julie Scheer,
Allison Waskow and Logan have combined for an ERA of 2.18.
At the plate,
Sam Parsons leads the team with a .370 average (10-for-27), with four runs scored, two doubles and three RBI. Sophomore
Hannah Campbell has swung the bat well as of late, hitting .366 (15-for-41), while leading the Owls in runs scored (13) and stolen bases (10).
Senior
Kacey Scharnhorst is leading the team with 18 RBI in the last 14 games, while batting .364 (16-for-44) and tallying three doubles, three triples and one home run.
Emily Murphy has also provided the power in the lineup, hitting .351 (13-for-37) and is second on the team in RBI (11).
Inside the circle, Waskow has found her groove as the season has gone on, holding a 5-3 record in her last eight appearances, owning a 1.88 EREA in 44.2 innings pitched and struck out 43 batters. Logan, meanwhile, has a 2.51 ERA in her last seven starts, winning four games and has struck out 42 opposing batters.
On the season, the offense is batting .291, led by Murphy's .395 average (30-for-76) and has been able to up her RBI total to 17, which is second best on the team. Scharnhorst has batted her way to a .326 average (29-for-89), while driving in a team-high 25 RBI.
Campbell is a perfect 16-for-16 on the base paths, and owns .325 average (27-for-83) in 28 starts, while
Sydnae Hatton is hitting just below the .300 mark (.299 avg) and is second on WWU with 15 runs scored.
Waskow, leads the pitching staff, as she is 7-8 on the year with a 2.76 ERA in 91.1 innings pitched, while striking out a team-high 79 batters. Logan, has picked up six wins in 12 starts, has a 3.93 ERA, totaled 64 strikeouts and is limiting opposing hitters to a .222 average.
Park University (16-9; 8-3 AMC), is coming off two losses against Missouri Baptist University on March 30
th, as they fell in game one 3-0 and game two 7-0. Prior to those defeats, the Pirates had won 13 out of its last 14 games.
On the year, the offense is batting .297 and are led by Britanee Willard's .375 average (27-for-72), with 18 runs scored and seven RBI. Shelby Bendure, meanwhile, leads the Pirates in doubles (12) and RBI (29), while batting .343 (23-for-67) in 23 games.
Megan Palmer and Callie Beaver, are the final two Park players batting above the .300 mark, as Palmer is hitting .328, while Beaver owns a .316 average respectively.
On the rubber, Allie Reynolds leads the staff with a 1.25 ERA, while leading the team with nine wins in 84.0 innings pitched. Kelli Wenberg is 5-3 in her 11 starts, has a 3.50 EREA in 52.0 innings of work and has struck out 38 batters.
