Softball Looks To Extend Its Winning Streak Against St. Louis College Of Pharmacy

Begemann is batting .875 (7-for-8) in the last five games for the Owls.
CHESTERFIELD, Mo.—The William Woods University softball team will look to add onto its winning streak on Thursday afternoon, as the Owls take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy. First-pitch will be thrown at 1:30 p.m.

The games against STLCOP were originally scheduled for Friday, but due to rain in the forecast in St. Louis on Friday, the doubleheader was moved up a day.

The Owls (25-22; 14-8 AMC), are coming off two big American Midwest Conference (AMC) wins in its last time out, as they defeated Missouri Baptist University in comeback fashion 6-5 in game one, while running away with a 7-2 victory in game two.

The victories extended the teams' winning streak to five, while in the process, it also moved the Owls up to the No. 6-seed in the AMC standings, as they are just one game out of fourth place.

During the last five outings, the Owls are outscoring its opponents 30-11, while holding a team batting average of .355. Inside the circle, the pitching staff has been just as dominant, having a 1.70 ERA in 33.0 innings pitched and have combined for 23 strikeouts.

At the dish, Beth Begemann is leading WWU, as she is 7-for-8 (.875 avg), with four runs scored, one RBI, a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on-base percentage of .923. Senior Sam Parsons is batting .417 (5-for-12), with three runs scored and one RBI, while fellow senior, Kacey Scharnhorst, is hitting .389 (7-for-18), with five runs scored, two doubles, two triples and six RBI.

Sydnae Hatton has a .357 average (5-for-14), while Caroline Sicht is the final Owl batting over the .300 mark (.308) and she is tied with Scharnhorst in RBI (six).

On the rubber, Bre Logan is 2-0 in her last two starts, having an ERA of 1.00 in 14.0 innings pitched and has struck out a team-high 11 batters, while opposing hitters are batting just .196. Another freshman, Allison Waskow, is also 2-0 with a 2.80 ERA in 15.0 innings of work and has sat down nine batters.

On the year, the Owls are batting .307 and are led by Murphy's .360 average, while adding 14 runs scored, 10 doubles, three triples and 24 RBI. Hatton, is hitting .339 with 21 runs scored, while Hannah Campbell has a .338 average in 43 games, while continuing to lead the team in runs scored (32) and stolen bases (22).

Scharnhorst, a St. Peters, Missouri, native, leads the Owls in hits (48), triples (eight) and RBI (42), while batting .333. Sicht, a Columbia, Missouri, native, meanwhile, leads the Owls with six home runs and 12 doubles, while owning a .307 average.

The pitching staff has 3.31 ERA in 294.1 innings pitched and are led by Waskow's 2.73 ERA and 10 wins in 19 starts. The Canton, Illinois, native, has tossed in 143.2 innings and has totaled a team-high 113 strikeouts.

Logan, also has 10 wins on the year, while earning a 3.80 ERA in 129.0 innings and has struck out 99 batters.

The Eutectics (6-24; 3-19 AMC), snapped its 11 game skid in its last time out, as they defeated Principia College, 8-3 in game one and 13-1 (5 innings), in game two.

On the year, STLCOP, is batting .214 as a team and are led by Taylor Underwood's .313 average (21-for-67), with seven doubles, one home run and 11 RBI. Allison Dewald has a .303 average through 26 games and leads the team with 18 runs scored, two triples and three home runs.

Kara Terry is batting .286 with four RBI, while Haley Gegelman is hitting .261, with one home run and 10 RBI.

Inside the circle, Dewald leads STLCOP with a 9.76 ERA in 13 starts and has totaled 50 strikeouts. She and Bailey Johnson both have one win on the year.
