Softball Looks To Snap Its Four Game Skid Against Williams Baptist College

Waskow is 2-2 in five appearances during conference play and has an ERA of 0.58
FULTON, Mo.—The William Woods University softball team will look to snap its four game skid in front of the home crowd on Friday afternoon, as the Owls play host to Williams Baptist College. First-pitch will be thrown at 2 p.m.

Throughout the day, the WWU Communications senior capstone class will be hosting a cystic fibrosis day at Backer Sports Complex and Owls field. They will have a 50/50 raffle, bake sale, t-shirts on sale for $15.00 and will be accepting donations.

All proceeds will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Gateway Chapter in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Owls (17-18; 6-4 AMC), are coming off two tough losses against Lindenwood University-Belleville in its last time out, as they dropped game one 5-1 and game two, 9-1 (six innings).

In American Midwest Conference (AMC) play, the Owls have a team batting average of .274 and have been led by sophomore Hannah Campbell, who holds a .444 average (8-for-18), with six runs scored, four RBI and five stolen bases.

Beth Begemann is hitting .364 (4-for-11), with one home run and six RBI, while senior Kacey Scharnhorst, has hit her way to a .348 average (8-for-23) in eight games and leads the Owls with 12 RBI.

Inside the circle, Allison Waskow is 2-2 in five appearances in conference play, as the freshman hurler has an impressive 0.58 ERA in 24.1 innings pitched, while striking out 20 batters. Bre Logan, a Columbia, Missouri, native, is also 2-2 with a 4.27 ERA and has struck out a team-high 22 hitters.

On the year, junior Emily Murphy is pacing the offense with a .361 average, while totaling a team-high eight doubles and is tied for second on the Owls with 17 RBI. Campbell is hitting .319 and leads the Owls in runs scored (25) and stolen bases (18), while Scharnhorst has totaled a team-high five triples and 30 RBI, to go along with her .317 average.

Caroline Sicht, a senior, leads William Woods with five home runs and has contributed 17 RBI, while owning a .277 average in 28 starts.

On the rubber, Waskow, has an ERA of 2.52, while earning a record of 7-10 in 21 appearances. The Canton, Illinois, native, has totaled four shutouts in 105.2 innings and 92 strikeouts. Logan, meanwhile, is 6-5 on the year, with a 3.85 ERA in 87.1 innings and has earned 68 strikeouts.

Williams Baptist College (20-11; 11-7 AMC), will enter Backer Sports Complex, winners of its last four games, including coming off a doubleheader sweep over Benedictine University at Springfield, as they won 9-1 in game one and 6-0 in game two.

On the season, the Lady Eagles, are batting .378 as a team and are led by Cindy Nippe's .448 average (30-for-67), while adding two home runs and 22 RBI. Andrea Drake is hitting .441 (41-for-93), with 24 runs scored and has contributed a team-high eight home runs and 31 RBI.

Madelyn Poe is third on the team with a .434 average (36-for-83), while leading WBC with 31 runs scored and 12 stolen bases. Callie Brooks holds a .379 average, while hitting six home runs and totaling 33 RBI.

Another bat the Owls will need to keep an eye on is Catie Burleson, who is batting .369 (31-for-84), with 15 runs scored, six home runs and has added a team-high 40 RBI.

On the rubber, the Lady Eagles are led by Laura Bell's 3.93 ERA and 9-4 overall record in 73.0 innings pitched. Mallory Mcwhorter and Taylor Archer both have one win each and an ERA of 4.82 and 4.85 respectively.
