Volleyball Sweeps Williams Baptist; Win Fourth Straight

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Volleyball team won its fourth straight match when they defeated Williams Baptist College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-18) in American Midwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Anderson Arena.
 
The Owls were led by Stephanie Davis, who collected 13 kills in the match. Victoria Day followed with 11 kills. Brittney Englebrecht tallied 36 assists in the match moving her career total to 3,492, which is 14 kills away from tying for second place on the career assists list. The Owls recorded six aces in the match.
 
William Woods returns to action on Tuesday, October 4th when they host Lindenwood-Belleville in American Midwest Conference action. Action starts at 7 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
 
Game Flow
The Owls wasted little time pulling away from the Eagles in the first set of the match. With Williams Baptist ahead, 2-1, the Owls went on a run scoring the next seven points of the set taking an 8-2 lead after a Kira Brebill kill. WWU continued to hold a lead as they grew the lead to 17-8 after a Davis kill. Williams Baptist did not go away quietly as they mounted a comeback scoring nine of the next 11 points trimming the Owls lead down to two, 19-17. After that William Wood scored all but one point for the remainder of the set taking set one, 25-18, after a Day kill.
 
Williams Baptist came out scoring four of the first five points of the second set prior to the Owls offense came to life. Trailing, 5-3, the Owls rallied off the next three points on kills by Davis and two attack errors for the Eagles. WWU continued to build its lead and it slowly grew to a seven point, 18-11, for the Owls. The Owls did not let the Eagles get closer than six the rest of the match and WWU took set two, 25-19, after a kill by Engelbrecht.
 
WWU out swinging in the third set as they scored the first five points of the set. The Owls used kills by Tory Wiley and a block by Wiley to take the 5-0 lead. Williams Baptist did not go down quietly as they trimmed the Owls lead down to three, 11-8, after a Madison Laubach kill. The Eagles got the match to 16-14, before the Owls scored the next four points growing its lead to 20-14, after block by Abby Ferguson and Davis. The Owls did not let the Eagles get any closer as a Krebill kill gave the Owls the set, 25-18. With the win for the Owls they won its fourth straight match.
