FULTON, Mo. - The William Woods University Volleyball team defeated Stephens College 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-13) in an American Midwest Conference (AMC) action Thursday night at Anderson Arena. The Owls move to 17-10 overall and 7-2 in AMC while the Stars move to 7-21 overall and a 2-7 AMC record.

Victoria Day led the Owls with 10 kills and
Brittney Engelbrecht had nine. Engelbrecht led the way for the Owls with 28 assists on the match.
Jessica Jensen had 13 digs leading the Owls.Â

WWU returns to action tomorrow, Friday, October 21st when they host Vanguard University in non-conference action. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Anderson Arena.Â

Game Flow
In set one, the Owls took off with the lead scoring seven of the first ten points taking a, 7-3, lead. After kills by
Kira Krebill and
Stephanie Davis, the Owls continued to hold a four-point lead. That would be the closest the Stars would get to the Owls lead. After a service run by
Jessica Jensen and kills by Davis and
Victoria Day, the Owls found themselves ahead, 20-11. A kill by Stars Danielle Kirk and a service run by Yonne Nasimiyu would give the Stars a boost, but Day would shut it down with two aces and added kills by Davis and
Tory Wiley would end set one, 25-14.

Set two would be tied at 2-2 before the Owls pushed its lead to five-points, 9-4, after a service run by Jensen and
Kayton Coffee. A kill by Day and
Brittney Engelbrecht would put the Owls at a comfortable 11-5 set score. The Stars would have a service run of two points and a kill by Danielle Kirk, cutting the lead down to four, 13-9. Another Owl service run by Jensen would quickly add to the Owls lead, 16-11. Once again, the Stars would cut the lead to three, 18-15, with a service run by Tylar Grant. A kill by Day would give the Owls the side out, bringing
Kameryn Bellinger to serve. After capitalizing on Stars mistakes and ace by Engelbrecht, Day would end the second set with a kill, 25-16.

Set three would start off strong with a service run by Englebrecht, setting the Owls up for a two-point lead, 3-1. After a kill by the Stars Grant, 4-3, this would be the closest the Stars would be all night. A kill by Day would get the ball back for the Owls and a service run by Bellinger would leave the Owls at a four-point lead, 9-5. Day would then have an ace and a kill by Engelbrecht would put the Owls at a 13-5 lead. The Stars would score two points extending its lead to 13-7. During Coffee's service run, there would be an ace, a kill from Day, Wiley, and Engelbrecht, moving the score to 19-7 in favor of the Owls. The Stars would score two more before a kill by
Jaclyn Zahn, with an assist from
Amy Leftridge would stop the run putting the Owls ahead by 12 points, 22-10. The Stars would score two more before finally falling to the Owls, 25-13.
