FULTON, Mo. – Brittney Engelbrecht led the William Woods University Volleyball team as she recorded a triple-double (47 assists, 19 digs, 10 kills) on Friday, however, the Owls were defeated by Vanguard 3-2 (25-17, 26-24, 20-25, 22-25, 17-19).

Victoria Day led the Owls with 15 kills in the match. The Owls had five players in double-figure kills in the match. Engelbrecht dished out 47 assists, 19 digs and 10 kills in the match for a triple-double for the Owls.

WWU returns to action on Tuesday, October 25th when they travel to Saint Louis, Missouri to face Missouri Baptist University in American Midwest Conference.The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Game Flow
In the first set, the Owls took a three-point lead with a kill by
Victoria Day and
Kira Krebill, 3-0. They continued their run capitalizing on Lions mistakes taking the lead to 9-5. After a run by Kelly Dalrymple, the Lions cut the lead to two points, 10-8. That was quickly stopped by a service run by
Kayton Coffee and a kill by
Stephanie Davis putting WWU ahead, 12-9. Another run by Day would bring the Owls back up to a seven-point lead, 17-9. The Lions would fight back with a service run by Rebecca Lowden, but
Jessica Jensen and two kills by
Brittney Engelbrecht would bring the Owls back to 21-14. The Lions would score three more before falling to the Owls, 25-17.

In the second set WWU scored the first six out of ten points taking a 6-4 lead. A service run by the Lion's Dalrymple would tie the match at 8-8. The set would be tied again five more times before the Owls would finally take off with the lead, 23-22. After a kill by Krebill, the Owls would take set two, 26-24.

With a 2 sets to zero lead over Vanguard, the Owls would fall behind 6-3 after a kill by Hailey Gordon. A service run by Vanguard would take off with a seven-point lead, 12-5. A run by Day and later by
Jessica Jensen would give the Owls a shot back in the match, 15-14. Vanguard would extend the lead by four, 22-18. The Owls would fight back with a kill by Day, but it would not be enough after a kill by Hailey Gordon and a successful service run to end it by Amanda Sappington, 25-20.

The fourth set would bring more upsets to the Owls. After falling behind three points, the Owls would tie it up at 5-5 after a kill by Day. A service run by
Kameryn Bellinger and a kill by Davis, the Owls would cut the lead to four, 9-6. The Owls would fight back eventually going point for point then eventually being tied at 17-17. Another service run by Bellinger would give the Owls the lead by one, but the Owls could not hold onto the lead and were defeated by Vanguard, 25-22, to force a fifth set.

In the fifth set, the Owls went up 3-1 after a kill by
Tory Wiley and Engelbrecht. After a kill by Krebill the Owls held a two-point lead, 4-2. The match would then go point for point until the Owls finally ran away with a four-point lead, 11-7. WWU held a lead of 14-12 after a kill by Davis, giving the Owls match point. However, the Owls could not put the match away as the Lions scored the next two points tying the match at 14-14. A Wiley kill put the Owls head 15-14 but again the Owls could not clinch the match. William Woods had three different set points and could not put the Lions away who came back taking the fifth set 19-17.
