Men’s Basketball Downs Baptist Bible, 97-36

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The William Woods University used a strong shooting game, as they shot 60 percent from the floor, en route to a 97-36 victory over Baptist Bible College on Monday, evening in Springfield, Missouri.
 
Trey Mitchell led the Owls with 19 points off the bench on 9-of-12 shooting. Deon Pettigrew followed with 17 points. Alec Mulvihill and Shannon James had 13 points each in the victory of for the Owls. Jerel Wilhite rounded out the double-figure scores for the Owls with 11 points. Keith Jackson led the Owls with 10 rebounds in the contest.
 
The Owls return to action on Thursday, November 17th when they travel to Batesville, Arkansas to face Lyon College. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. This will be the Owls first American Midwest Conference game of the season.
 
Game Flow
The Owls offense came out on fire in the game as they raced out to a 18-4 lead in the first seven minutes of the contest. Pettigrew put the Owls ahead by 14 with a jumper in the paint. Three minutes later the Owls lead grew to 18 points, 25-7, after a Trey Mitchell layup.
 
William Wood continued to stretch the lead as they went ahead by 21 points, 33-12, after a two-point jumper by Shannon James. WWU continued to stretch the lead and closed out the half on a 10-2 run taking a 31-point lead, 53-22, into halftime.
 
The Owls came out playing solid defense and continued to score as they opened the second half on a 24-0 run stretching the lead to 55 points, 77-22. A jumper by James in the paint gave the Owls the 55-point lead.
 
 WWU stretched the lead to 60 or more points at multiple occasions in the second half. A layup by Jerel Wilhite put the Owls ahead by 61-points, 61-36, which would be the final of the contest.
