William Woods Volleyball Falls to No. 6 Park

PARKVILLE, Mo. – The William Woods University Volleyball team closed out its 2016 regular season on Thursday evening as they were defeated by No. 6 Park University, 3-0 (19-25, 12-25, 19-25).
 
Libby Dove and Stephanie Davis led the Owls with five kills each. Brittney Engelbrecht dished out 16 assists in the contest. Jessica Jensen had 11 assists in the contest.
 
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, November 8th when they play in the American Midwest Conference Quarterfinals. They Owls will have to wait and see who they play and where they play after the final weekend of AMC action ends on Saturday.
 
Game Flow
In set one, Brittney Engelbrecht leads the Owls in the right direction scoring the first two points, 2-0. Park quickly came back scoring two, 2-2. Melanie Kala then had a service run which included a kill by Ferguson and timely mistakes by the Pirates, giving the Owls a, 6-3. The match then went point for point with the Owls leading by five, 11-6. A kill by Stephanie Davis and Victoria Day would add two more points, 13-9. A service run by Daniela Duarte would threaten the Owls lead with an ace, and a kill by Wendy Romero to give Park the lead, 16-15. A kill by Salma Shahtout would begin the rally for the Pirates. Danna Gomes would then take the Pirates to a five-point lead, 21-16. A service error by Romero would give the Owls life but they would only score two more points until the Pirates took set one, 25-19.
 
Set two would go point for point with kills by Kira Krebill, Engelbrecht, and Day to start the match. Both teams would contribute their own mistakes until finally reaching a set score of 5-5. The Pirates finally ran away with the lead when Shahtout would have a service run but kills by Day and Davis would cut that short. An Owl mistake would then give the Pirates the opportunity they were waiting for. Paloma Bacellar would give the Pirates a lead of 11, 17-6. A kill by Davis would give the Owls the side out and another kill by Dove would add two, 17-8. An Owl mistake would give the ball back to the Pirates, but Engelbrecht would add a kill of her own to get the ball back into her hands for the serve, 18-9. Kills by Romero would quickly end the Owl service streak, 20-10. Romero would then take the set into her own hands with two aces, 23-11. The Owls would squeeze out one more point before finally falling to the Pirates, 25-12.
 
Set three would start off with neither team taking control for the first six points of the set, 3-3. Park would take the lead when Shahtout gave the Pirates a four-point lead, 7-3. A Pirate mistake would ignite the Owls offense with kills by Dove and Krebill cutting the lead down to two, 10-8. Back-to-back service runs by Gomes and Romero would add eight points to the Pirate lead, 18-10. Another kill by Davis would get the ball into the hands of Coffee who would have an ace and Day would also add a kill putting the Owls down six, 19-13. A mistake by the Pirates would give the Owls the opportunity to score with Day serving. Day added an ace and the Owls took advantage of the Pirate mistakes, adding four points to cut the lead to three, 20-17. After an Owl error, the Pirates would strike with a kill by Sabrina Silva, but would get shut down the next serve with a kill by Dove, 22-18. Another Pirate mistake would add a point for the Owls, but that would not be enough against Pirate offense ultimately falling in the third, 25-19.
