Softball Opens AMC Play Against WBC and FHU

FULTON, Mo. — The William Woods University Softball teams opens up American Midwest Conference (AMC) action on Friday and Saturday when they host Williams Baptist College on Friday and Freed-Hardeman University on Saturday. Both games are doubleheaders with Friday's game starting at 2 p.m. and Saturday starting at 1 p.m.

The Owls (8-9, 0-0 AMC), are coming off being swept in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Culver-Stockton College. The Owls dropped game one, 2-1, and fell in game two, 4-1.
 
On the season, William Woods holds a team batting average of .304, with 75 runs scored, 26 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 70 RBI.
 
Leading the way has been Beth Begemann who is hitting .417 (20-for-48) with eight runs scored, seven doubles, one home run, 10 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .667. Following Begemann is Sierra Jacques, who is hitting .412 on the season.
 
Inside the circle, Allison Waskow leads the team with an earned run average (ERA) 1.99 in her nine games she has appeared in. Waskow has pitched a team-high 52.2 innings this year while picking up four wins. Sophomore Bre Logan has appeared in seven games compiling an ERA of 4.37 in 33.2 innings pitched.
 
As a team, the Owls have the third best ERA in the American Midwest Conference with 3.40. WWU is only allowing teams to hit .239 on the season with 18 extra base hits. The Owls pitching staff has struck out 68 batters on the season.

On Friday, the Owls will face Williams Baptist Eagles in a doubleheader. The Eagles come in with record of 7-5 on the season and are coming off a doubleheader against Park University, which they played on March 10th.

As a team, the Eagles are hitting .318 on the season and have collected 106 hits in 333 at bats on the season. Leading the way is Madelyn Poe who is hitting .486 on the season. Right behind her is Ashley Lyons who is hitting .414.

On the mound, the Eagles have an ERA of 3.41 on the season and are allowing opponents to hit .289 on the season. Catherine Totty has the lowest ERA on the team with an ERA of 3.04. Rylee Rogers has pitched 43 innings on the season, the most on the staff.

On Saturday, the Owls face Freed-Hardeman in a doubleheader. The Lady Lions will face Park on Friday prior to facing the Owls. Entering this weekend, Freed-Hardeman is 6-6 on the season. Freed-Hardeman enters this weekend after winning its last three contests.
 
Freed-Hardeman is hitting .253 on the season and are led by Caitlyn Carter, who is hitting .439 (18-for-41) on the season. Allie Carpenter leads the team with 10 RBI on the season. The Lady Lions have collected 15 extra base hits on the season.

On the mound, Makenzie Prince leads the team with a 1.97 ERA as she has appeared in seven games making five starts on the season. Prince has pitched 42.2 innings on the season while striking out 49 and walking 16. Mallory Spurlock follows for the Lady Lions as she has pitched in six games, and has an ERA of 3.26 on the season. On the season opponents are hitting .284 on the year.
