Owls Swept by Eagles in AMC Opener

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Softball team were swept in their American Midwest Conference (AMC) opener by Williams Baptist College Eagles. The Owls dropped game one, 4-2, and dropped game two, 6-2.
 
The Owls return to action tomorrow, Saturday, March 12th when they return to AMC action as they host Freed-Hardeman University. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
 
Game One
Game Flow

William Woods scored the first run of the contest against in the bottom of the first. Sydnae Hatton led off the game with a bunt single and advanced to third on a throwing error by the Eagles. Brailee Schulte two were hitters were retired.
 
After the run was scored, the Owls and Eagles pitchers settled down and hits came few and far between. Williams Baptist threatened in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, and two runners on, Waskow got the next two hitters to ground out ending the threat.
 
The game remained 1-0, until the top of the sixth inning. With two out and two runners on, Jordyn Barkowsky singled to center scoring one, and Barkwosky advanced to second on the throw of Hannah Campbell. Randi Bachtel singled home two more runs putting the Eagles ahead 3-1.
 
William Woods battled back tying the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with two out and a runner on second base, Madison McCormick singled to left field scoring Campbell from second putting the Owls down one, 3-2.
 
The Eagles added another run in the top of the seventh inning on a Haley Hambrick single to left center. Going to the bottom of the seventh the Owls found themselves down 4-2. WWU went down in order in the seventh and dropped game one, 4-2.

Game Two
Game Flow

Williams Baptist looked as if they would take the lead in the top of the first inning of Owls starter, Bre Logan. With two out and one on, Logan walked the next two Eagles loading the bases. The next hitter Logan got to ground out ending the inning for the Eagles.
 
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the second inning. Schulte led off with a walk and Amanda Bouchey singled putting two runners on base. After a hit by pitch the Owls had the bases loaded. Ari Arnold came up and hit into a fielder's choice, which retired the Owls runner at the plate for the second out of the inning. Hatton followed with an infield single scoring one putting the Owls ahead 1-0. That was all the Owls got as they left the bases loaded.
 
The game remained 1-0, Owls, until the top of the fourth inning. With two runner on base, Callie Brooks doubled to deep center field which scored both the runners putting the Eagles ahead, 2-1.
 
WWU came back tying the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the inning. Bouchey singled to left to start the inning off for the Owls and she advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alexi Cavins. Bouchey advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an Ari Arnold single up the middle.
 
The Eagles broke the 2-2 tie in the top of the sixth inning. With two on and two outs, the Eagles bats came to life. Williams Baptist's Callie Brooks doubled to center field scoring two putting the Eagles ahead, 4-2. Brooks came into score on an Andrea Drake single up the middle. The Eagles added one more in the inning and led 6-2 after five and a half innings were complete.
 
The Owls did not threaten again and William Woods dropped game two, 6-2.
