Owls Softball Splits With Central Baptist

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CONWAY, Ark. – The William Woods University Softball Team split an American Midwest Conference (AMC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon as they won game one, 5-4, before dropping game two, 8-7.
 
The Owls return to action Sunday, March 20th when they travel to Batesville, Ark. to resume its doubleheader against Lyon College. The Owls and Scots will pick up game one in the third inning with Lyon ahead, 1-0, with game two following.
 
Game One
Game Flow

Central Baptist took advantage of walks, hit batters and errors in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, the next three hitters either walked, were hit by a pitch or reached on an error. On the misplayed grounder, a run came across to score and the Owls trailed, 1-0.
 
William Woods battled back tying the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning. Hannah Campbell doubled to right field scoring one run tying the game. The Owls broke the tie game in the top of the fifth inning. Shelby LeCuru scored on a squeeze play by Ari Arnold. Sydnae Hatton scored the Owls second run of the inning when she stole home.
 
Central Baptist bounced back in the bottom of the fifth inning when Lauren Sweeten scored on a missed catch by Brailee Schulte.
 
WWU added its fourth run of the game in the top of sixth inning. With runners on first and second, Emily Murphy drove a run in with a single to left field. The Owls looked to add more in the inning but the threat was ended when Schulte was picked off.
 
William Woods added its fifth run of the game in the top of the seventh inning when Amanda Bouchey doubled home Hannah Campbell and the Owls led 5-2. However, Central Baptist continued to battled and scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Racquel Westerman drove in one with a single to center. Central Baptist added one more in the inning but the Owls held on for a 5-4 victory over Central Baptist.

Game Two

Like game one, Central Baptist struck early as they took advantage of errors by the Owls. Sweeten scored the first run of the game when Alli Massey missed a catch.
 
The Owls came back to tie the game in the top of the third inning. With two outs, Campbell tripled to center field. She came in to score when Ari Arnold reached on a Central Baptist error. After two and a half innings the game was tied at 1-1.
 
William Woods offense came to life in the top of the fourth inning. The Owls broke the tie game as they scored four runs in the inning. Sydnae Hatton reached on an error scoring one. Campbell doubled home two more in the inning while Ari Arnold hit a sacrifice scoring another.
 
Central Baptist added one run in the bottom of the fourth inning but the Owls answered back when Shelby LeCuru singled home a run in the top of the fifth.
 
Both teams added one more run and heading to the bottom of the sixth inning the Owls held a 7-3 lead. The lead did not last long as Central Baptist scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Heading to the seventh the game was tied at 7-7.
 
After a scoreless seventh inning, the game went to extra innings. The Owls were sat down in order and Central Baptist came up to reach. Lauren Sweeten reached base by a walk with one out. She stole second base and the following batter grounded out to short. On the batted ball Sweeten came in to score on a wild throw by Massey ending the contest with the Owls falling 8-7.
