Box Score ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The William Woods University Men's Tennis team edged NCAA Division II Lindenwood University, 5-4, on Monday afternoon. With the win the Owls now have won four straight matches.
"The guys were really challenged today," stated head coach
Lauren Meier. "I would snot say we played our best but what they showed was that they are able to find a way to win even though they didn't feel 100% which is very big accomplishment for them as a team."
The Owls took the first point of the match when no. 2 doubles team of
Johnnie Carmichael and
Stefan Simic came away with a 8-0 victory. The match was tied at 1-1 after
David Barbieri and
Adam Deen Qurban were defeated 8-2. The Owls retook the lead after
Christian Barbieri and
Jelmer Van Vliet won in No. 3 doubles, 9-7.
William Woods and Lindenwood traded matches in singles action as Lindwood took no. 1, no. 2 and no. 6 singles. Fliup Bogic defeated D. Barbier, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 1 singles action. Novavral El Ldrassi defeated Marcos Vinicius prates Constantion, 7-5, 6-4. Slobodan Bavrilic defeated Van Vliet 7-5, 7-5.
Those would be the only matches the Lions would win as the Owls responded by winning the rest of the singles matches. C. Barbieri defeated Theo Butaeye 6-2, 6-2. Carmichael defeated Michele Gasspari, 6-4, 6-2. Simic won in no. 5 singles claiming the match for the Owls, 5-4.
The Owls return to action on Monday, March 28th when they play in Lebanon, Tenn. against Cumberland University. Match starts at 10 a.m.
