Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. – The William Woods University Men's Tennis had its four game-winning streak snapped when No. 22 Cumberland (Tenn.) defeated the Owls, 6-3, on Monday afternoon.
William Woods found themselves down after doubles. The Owls won No. 3 doubles, when
Johnnie Carmichael and
Stefan Simic defeated Jose Ortega and Dylan Nelson, 8-1. The Owls team of
David Barbieri and
Marcos Vinicius Prates Constantino were defeated in No. 2 doubles, 8-2. WWU also dropped No. 1 doubles, 8-4, as
Christian Barbieri and
Jelmer Van Vliet were defeated by Thiago Lopes and Axel Lucich.
The Owls gained two points in singles as
Christian Barbieri won No. 3 singles as he won, 6-4, 6-3, over Alex Lucich. WWU also took No. 4 singles when Simic defeated Jakov Tshiakin, 6-2, 7-5.
Cumberland won the four other singles. In No. 1 singles, Anatoliy Lashkul defeated Constantino, 6-0, 6-1. Thiago Lopes won No. 2 singles over D. Barbieri, 6-1, 6-1. In a highly contested first set, Jose Ortega and Van Vliet as Orega took set one, 7-5. Ortega took set two, 6-0.
Carmichael looked as if he would take No. 6 singles as Carmichael took set one 6-3, over Dylan Nelson. Carmichael led 3-1 in the second set but he had to retire.
The Owls return on Tuesday, March 29th when they travel to Cochran, Ga. to face Middle Georgia State.
