Softball Hosts Goshen and Avila Saturday and Sunday

FULTON, Mo. — The William Woods University softball team hosts Goshen College and Avila University on Saturday and Sunday at Owl Field. The Owls are currently 2-0 at home after opening their home schedule up on Thursday.
 
The Owls (6-5) are coming off a double-header sweep of Missouri Valley College on Thursday afternoon. The Owls defeated the Vikings, 4-3, in game one and 6-2, in game two. With the two wins, the Owls improved to 6-5 on the season entering this weekend's action.
 
On the season, William Woods holds a team batting average of .319, with 48 runs scored, 18 doubles, one triples, four home runs and 45 RBIs.
 
Leading the way has been Beth Begemann who is hitting .481 (13-for-27) with five runs scored, six doubles, one home run, eight RBIs and a slugging percentage of .815. Following Begemann is Ari Arnold, who is hitting .444 on the season. Sydnae Hatton follows hitting .400 on the season.
 
Inside the circle, Allison Waskow leads the team with an earned run average (ERA) 1.21 in her six games she has appeared in. Waskow has pitched a team-high 34.2 innings this year while picking up three wins. Sierra Jacques follows with an ERA of 2.58 and a 2-1 record on the season. Sophomore Bre Logan has appeared in four games compiling an ERA of 5.49 in 21.2 innings pitched.
 
As a team, the Owls have the third best ERA in the American Midwest Conference with 2.79. WWU is only allowing teams to hit .209 on the season with 11 extra base hits. The Owls pitching staff has struck out 36 batters on the season.

On Saturday the Owls will face Goshen College Leafs in a doubleheader. The Leafs come in with record of 1-9 on the season and are coming off their lone win of the season. Goshen defeated Marymount California University, 4-1, in game two of a doubleheader snapping its nine game losing streak.

As a team, the Leafs are hitting .222 on the season and have collected 50 hits in 225 at bats on the season. Appearing in only five of the ten games for Goshen, Rae Ann Miller has a batting average of .444 and teammate Brooke Maes follows hitting .409 on the season.

On the mound, the Leafs have an ERA of 6.63 on the season and are allowing opponents to hit .382 on the season. Brooke Maes has the lowest ERA on the team with an ERA of 4.74. Ann Miller has pitched 25 innings on the season, the most on the staff.

On Sunday, the Owls close out a six game home stand with a doubleheader against Avila University. The Eagles come into the contest with a record of 10-7-1 on the season and are 2-3 on the road this season. In the last contest for the Eagles, they lost game one of a doubleheader to Park University, 14-13 before tying the Pirates 6-6 in eight innings, when the game was called.

Avila is hitting .297 on the season led by Courtney Fountain, who is hitting .463 (19-for-41) on the season. Samantha Dexter leads the team with 17 RBIs on the season. The Eagles have collected 35 extra base hits on the season and have stolen 51 bases.

On the mound, Kyenne Wade leads the team with a 2.72 ERA as she has appeared in 10 games with four starts on the season. Wade has pitched 28.1 innings on the season while striking out 21 and walking 18. Tori Aziere leads the Eagles in innings pitched throwing 52 innings this season. As a team, Avila has an ERA of 3.98 and opponents are hitting .274 on the season.
