Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. – The William Woods University men's tennis team dropped its second match of the season on Sunday when they were defeated 6-0 by No. 3 Xavier University.
"The men played hard and Xavier is very, very strong this year," said head coach
Lauren Meier. "Unfortunately we also had to call the match at six due to time, but again I feel these guys gained some good competitive matches and overall experience this weekend. We will take it to Concordia Seminary this Tuesday."
The Owls fell behind early as they dropped No. 1 and No. 2 doubles 8-0 against Xavier. In third doubles,
Stefan Simic and
Johnnie Carmichael battled Tushar Mandlekar and Manav Chakma but the Gold Rush were too strong as the Gold Rush took third doubles, 8-6.
In singles action the Gold Rush took singles one, two and three. In No. 1 singles, Karan Salwan defeated
David Barbieri, 6-1, 6-1. Thomas Setodji defeated
Marcos Vinicius Prates Constantino, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 2 singles.
Christian Barbieri battled Kyle Montrel tough in the first set before falling 7-5, in the opening set. Montrel did not waste any time in the second set as he defeated Barbieri 6-0, in the second set.
Jelmer Van Vliet was up 1-0 against Kevin Chaouat in No. 4 singles but the match was not finished. No. 5 and 6 singles did not play as they match was called prior to them getting on the court.
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, March 8 when they take on Concordia Seminary at 6 p.m. at Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex.
