Box Score FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Men's Tennis was defeated by the Vikings of Missouri Valley College, 5-4, on the Wednesday afternoon.
 
Missouri Valley when they took the No. 1 doubles as Abdul Alhamzawi and Heitor Garcia defeated Marcos Vinicius Prates Constantino and Jelmer Van Vliet, 8-2. The Owls tied the match when they Stefan Simic and Johnnie Carmichael defeated Johnathan Taylor and Davor Vujkovic 9-7. The Owls took the lead, 2-1, after taking No. 3 doubles. The team of Christian Barbieri and David Barbieri defeated Greg Teal and Rei Pelushi, 8-2.
 
The Vikings made its comeback in singles action as they took the first two. Heitor Garcia and Stefano Benedetti won No. 1 and No. 2 singles over the Owls. Garcia defeated Elias Fernandez, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 1 singles. Benedietti defeated Constantino, 6-4, 7-5, in No. 2 singles.
 
After falling down 3-2, William Woods responded by taking a 4-3 lead after taking the singles No. 3 and No. 5 singles. C. Barbieri defeated Abdul Alhamzawi in No. 3, 6-2, 6-2. The Owls took the lead after David Barbieri defeated Gabriel Pozo, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 5 singles.
 
However, after the Owls took scored its fourth point of the match, the Owls did not score again and the Vikings bounced back taking and tying the match at 4-4 after Johnny Taylor defeated Simic, 6-2, 7-6. Missouri Valley clinched the match by winning singles No. 6. Davor Vujkovic defeated Carlos Clerins, 7-6, 7-5.
 
The Owls return to action on Friday when they travel to Belleville, Ill. when they face Baker University and Saint Louis College of Pharmacy.
