FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Softball take took both games against Missouri Baptist University, on Saturday afternoon. The Owls won game one, 3-0, and game two, 2-1, on Senior Day for the Owls at Backer Field.

The Owls return to action on Tuesday, April 19th when they host Lindenwood University – Belleville. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

Game One

Owls starter,
Allison Waskow kept the Spartans off balance in the first game of the doubleheader. Waskow only allowed Missouri Baptist to collect two hits the entire contest. In the first inning of action, Waskow recorded three ground outs.

William Woods broke the scoreless tie in the third inning.
Olivia Imhoff reached on a walk. She moved to second on a bunt single by
Sydnae Hatton. Both Hatton and Imhoff moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by
Hannah Campbell. With one out and runners on second and third,
Brailee Schulte tripled to left-center scoring two and putting the Owls ahead 2-0.

Waskow allowed the Spartans its second hit with two outs in the fourth inning. After the second hit for Missouri Baptist, the Spartans were retired in order.

The Owls added its third run of the game in the fifth inning when Imhoff scored on a fielder's choice. William Woods looked as if they would add to their lead in the sixth inning but could not get a runner in from second base.

In the seventh, Waskow sat all three Spartans down in order and the Owls came away with a 3-0 victory in game one.

Missouri Baptist got to the Owls starter,
Sierra Jacques, early in game two. In the first inning, Chloe Jennings singled to left. After a strikeout and the Spartans second hit of the inning, MBU had runners on the corners. Jennings came in to score on a double steal putting the Spartans ahead 1-0.

After that run Jacques recorded the first out of the second inning. The second hitter of the inning, tripled down the right field line putting a runner on third with one out. Jacques got Macey Wienstroer to fly out to right field and on the play Shelby Poropat tried to tag and score. However, the Owls right fielder,
Hillary Hentges threw out, Poropat at the plate.

The Owls offense came to life in the third inning.
Sydnae Hatton singled to start off the inning and
Hannah Campbell advanced her to second on a sacrifice bunt. Hatton scored on Hentges triple down the right field line. She came into score on a Missouri Baptist error putting the Owls ahead, 2-1.

Payton Anderson led off the fourth with a single to left for the Spartans off Jacques. Anderson did not stay on the base paths long as Jacques got Amanda Williams to ground into a double play. She then got Rachel Garcia to line out to center field ending the inning.

Jacques sat down the Spartans in order in the fifth but ran into trouble in the sixth inning. After a leadoff hit and a passed ball, the Spartans had the tying run on second base. The Owls made a pitching change brining in
Allison Waskow. Waskow, who was the game one starter, got Chloe Jennings to fly out to right center, Andrea Chessor to ground out and struck out Payton Anderson to end the inning.

The Owls could not add to its lead in the sixth inning and took a one run lead into the top of the seventh inning. In the seventh inning, Waksow allowed a hit to Amanda Williams to right field, however, Williams was throwing out trying to stretch the hit into a double. Waskow got Rachel Garcia to fly out to
Brailee Schulte, who made a runner catch near the foul line, for the second out. Pamela Diaz grounded out to short ending the game and the Owls came away with a 2-1 victory and the sweep of Missouri Baptist.
