Box Score FULTON, Mo. – On the day the tennis courts were dedicated in honor of Suzanne Neal, the William Woods University Men's Tennis team won its third straight match as they defeated Lindenwood University-Belleville, 8-1, at the Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex.
The Owls jumped out to a quick lead over the Lynx.
Johnnie Carmichael and
Stefan Simic claimed the first point of the match as they won, 8-3, No. 2 doubles. The Owls went up 2-0 in the match after
Christian Barbieri and
David Barbieri won in No. 3 doubles, 8-2. William Woods took the final doubles match as
Marcos Vinicius Prates Constantino and
Jelmer Van Vliet won No. 1 doubles. Constanino and Van Vliet claimed its match 9-8 (10-6).
William Woods took its fourth and fifth point of the match when they took No. 4 singles and No. 2 singles.
Johnnie Carmichael won in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-3, while
Christian Barbieri clinched the win for the Owls by winning 6-1, 6-3.
Lindenwood-Belleville claimed its only win in No. 1 singles as Rory Cunliffe defeated
Elias Fernandez, 6-3, 6-2.
The Owls responded by taking the rest of the matches. Constantino won in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 4-6 (10-4). Simic followed by taking No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-4 and Van Vliet finished the match by winning No. 6, 6-3, 7-5.
The Owls return tomorrow when they host Missouri Baptist University at 10 a.m. at the Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex. The Owls and Spartans start at 10 a.m.
