Owls Softball Heads to WBC for AMC Championship

FULTON, Mo. — The William Woods University Softball team travels to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas this weekend to face Williams Baptist College in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Opening Round. The Owls and Eagles will play a doubleheader on Monday, May 2nd with first pitch starting at 1 p.m.
 
The AMC Opening Round is a two out of three game series and the winner of two games will advance to the AMC Final Four, which will be held at Central Baptist College. If neither team sweeps the doubleheader on Monday, they will play the third game of the series on Tuesday, April 30th starting at 1 p.m.

The Owls enter this weekend with a 27-24, 15-9 AMC record and enter the AMC Opening Round and as the 7th seed in the AMC Tournament.  The Owls had its seven game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night, when they dropped game one to No. 21 Central Methodist. William Woods rebounded in the second game as they got back in the win, 5-3, column by earning a split with CMU.
 
On the season, William Woods holds a team batting average of .303, with 246 runs scored, 70 doubles, 13 triples, 17 home runs and 221 RBIs.
 
Leading the way is Hillary Hentges as she is hitting .375 (39-for-104) on the season. She has nine doubles, one triple and three home runs while driving in 22 runs on the season. Following Hentges is Sydnae Hatton, who is hitting .353 (55-for-156) on the season. She has five doubles, two triples and one homerun as well as collecting 13 RBI on the season. Following Hatton is Brailee Schulte, who is hitting .341 (43-for-126) on the season with seven doubles, two triples and three home runs while driving in a team-high 36 runs.
 
Inside the circle, Allison Waskow leads the team with an earned run average (ERA) 2.57 in her 29 games she has appeared in. Waskow has pitched a team-high 147.0 innings this year while picking up 11 wins. Sierra Jacques comes into the AMC Opening Round with an ERA of 3.13 and 11 wins on the season in 112.0 innings pitched. Bre Logan rounds out the pitching staff as she has appeared in 17 games making 12 starts and pitching 65.1 innings on the season. Logan holds an ERA of 4.39 on the season and has four wins.
 
As a team, the Owls hold an ERA of 3.13. WWU is only allowing teams to hit .257 on the season with 45 extra base hits. The Owls pitching staff has struck out 203 batters on the season.

Williams Baptist enters this week with a record of 29-18 and 16-8 in AMC action to lock up the second seed in the AMC Championship. The Eagles have won four straight games dating back to April 16th when they won the second game against Freed-Hardeman.
 
As a team, WBC is hitting .318 on the season and have collected 413 hits, including 57 doubles, 11 triples and 27 home runs. Leading the way is Madelyn Poe, who is hitting .397 on the season. Right behind her is Ashley Lyons, who is hitting .352.

Callie Brooks leads the Eagles with seven home runs on the season and 45 RBI's on the season. Brooks is hitting .336 on the season.

On the mound, the Eagles have an ERA of 3.52 on the season and are allowing opponents to hit .275 on the season. Rylee Rogers, has appeared in 27 games in the circle, starting 24 of those games. She has pitched a team-high 156 innings and holds an ERA of 2.42 on the season. Rogers is 17-8 on the season.
 
William Woods and Williams Baptist squared off the opening weekend of AMC action this season at Backer Field on the campus of William Woods University. The Owls were swept by the Eagles in the two game set. Williams Baptist took game one by a score of 4-2, and game two, 6-2.
