Hannibal, Mo. – The William Woods Volleyball team opened up American Midwest Conference action on Tuesday evening as they traveled to Hannibal-LaGrange University. The Owls swept the Trojan's 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-15).

The Owls had a total of 41 kills and
Victoria Day as the lead at nine, with
Tory Wiley and
Stephanie Davis following closely with eight.

WWU returns to action on Thursday, September 15th when they travel to the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri for a non-conference match. The match starts at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Game Flow
The Owls wasted little time pulling away for the Trojans in the first set. With the match tied at 2-2 the Owls scored the next eight points of the set. After a kill by Davis, the Owls found themselves sitting on a nine-point lead, 13-4. After a service run from Day, the Owls added to their lead making the score 18-6. The Trojans answered back with a kill from Melissa Ryan, 18-7. Day and
Kira Krebill had back-to-back kills for the Owls and the score was 23-8. The Owl took set one, 25-11. Â

Set two started off similar to set one where the two teams battled back and forth. With the set tied at 3-3, the Owls went on a service run by
Jessica Jensen, and a kill by
Abby Ferguson, the Owls had a five-point lead, 9-4. The Trojans came back with a kill Shelby Maupin, but Day added another kill giving the Owls a lead of seven points, 12-5. Two service aces from Day and two kills by Wiley would bring the score to 16-6. The last six points of the set would be scored by Wiley, Ferguson, Krebill, and Day with kills as well as a service ace from
Brittney Engelbrecht,
Jessica Jensen, and
Melanie Kala, as the Owls took the set 25-9.

The Owls scored the first seven points in the third set with a service run by Engelbrecht, 7-0. Â During the run, Engelbrecht had three aces. A kill by Krebill put the ball back in Owls hands with Kala serving. The Trojans fought back with kills by Taylor Fry, Shelby Maupin, and Melissa Ryan making the score 15-6. Emily Pfeiffer cut the lead down to five with her service run for the Trojans, 17-11. After a few volleys and a block by Maupin, the score was 21-15. Kameryon Bellinger came up to serve and served the rest of the match for the Owls. After two attack errors put match point for the Owls and Davis recorded the clinching kill for the Owls. The Owls took the set 25-15.
