FULTON, Mo. – This Saturday, January 21st, at 11 a.m. the 2017 William Woods University Hall of Fame Class which includes Rachel Baker (Women's Basketball), Nan Downey (Softball), Michelle Krassinger (Softball) and
Barry Doty (Men's and Women's Golf), will be formally be inducted.
This year's inductees, will join an already prestigious Hall of Fame Class, which includes Helen Stephens, former athletic director Roger Ternes, Lana Unnewehr-Brooks (Women's Basketball), the 2002 men's volleyball team, Erin Jewell (Women's Soccer), Ashley Windmiller (Softball), Patty Wilderman (Women's Basketball), , Ashley Morgan (Women's Soccer), Saysha Sappenfield-Nevins (Softball),
Tracy Gastineau(softball), Larry York (former Athletic Director), Colleen Dailey (Women's Soccer/Softball) and Dana and Sue Anderson (Contributor's).
The incoming candidates were selected from a pool of nominees submitted by the Hall of Fame Nomination Committee, including suggestions from members of the public and current WWU Hall of Fame Inductees, for their outstanding accomplishments, exemplary service or recognition and distinction to William Woods.
Michelle Krassinger joins the WWU Hall of Fame after playing a standout four year career for the Owls softball team during the 1983-86 seasons.
"I was utterly flattered and awed by the call that I am to be recognized by the Woods for my softball contributions," stated Michelle Krassinger. "My time at Woods on the softball field and as a student acted as a true basis for my love of the game and my coaching career that followed. It is amazing to reflect on what my opportunity as an Owl has led to. I am so grateful to those who had a part on my journey."
During her career she compiled a 63-18 record and had a career earned run average (ERA) of 0.73 in 514.1 innings pitched. Her ERA of 0.73 for her career is the Owls Career softball leader. She also ranks first in shutouts in her career with 40. Her 514.1 innings pitched are the sixth most by an Owl in her career.
She ranks third all-time in her career for wins (63), third in complete games (62), fourth in starts (82) and fourth in strikeouts (409).
Krassinger was not done setting records at William Woods as she is in the top five seven statistical single season records. She holds the record for most shutouts in a season with 15, which was set in 1986. She is second in complete games with 27 (1986), an earned run average of 0.50 (1986), and shutouts with 12 (1985). She is fourth with 10 shutouts in 1984 and fifth all-time with an ERA of 0.69 (1984) and fewest walks allowed in a seven inning game, 0.62.
Krassinger helped the Owls to a second place, two third place and a fourth place finish at the NAIA District 16 post season tournaments.
Krassinger is a 1986 graduate of William Woods University with a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education/Learning Disability. Krassinger received her Masters of Education in Health and PE from the University of Louisiana-Monroe. She is currently pursing admittance to Nursing school this upcoming fall. She resides in Fenton, Missouri and is currently working for Schnarres Hardware.
