WWU Remains Undefeated in AMC with Narrow Win over MBU

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team narrowly defeated Missouri Baptist University with a nail-biting end to remain undefeated in conference play. The 77-74 win brings the Owls to a three-way tie for first place in the American Midwest Conference. They are 7-2 on the season with a four-game winning streak.

Peyton Greenlee scored just shy of half the Owl's points, putting up a career-high 34. She went 11-for-15 from the field, 4-for-6 from the three point line and shot 80 percent from the foul line (8-of-10). Kasey Hazell posted her first collegiate double-double, putting up 18 points (9-of-15) and pulling down 10 boards.

The team shot well above their season average, going .491 from the field in the 40 minutes of play with an impressive .462 percentage from the three-point line.

The Owls take a 12 day hiatus from play before traveling to No. 5 Freed-Hardeman University on Dec. 13 for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
 
Game Flow
The Owls won the jump ball and Kasey Hazell immediately found Ashleigh Frampton under the basket to take a 2-0 lead just four seconds into the game.

A three from Peyton Greenlee and a bucket from Kasey Hazell tied up the game after MBU took a five-point lead just over a minute and a half in.

After MBU took a six-point lead with 4:27 on the clock, the Owls ran the table with a 10-0 run fueled by Peyton Greenlee with eight points.

The Owls continued their run into the second quarter as Sommer Burgard put up two from the foul line to go up by six, 19-13.

MBU brought the game within three twice, but a three from Bailey Rollins on a 6-0 run gave the Owls a nine-point advantage with 4:23 to go in the half, 29-20.

The Owls took their first double-digit lead with two good free throws from Sommer Burgard, but a last second MBU bucket sent the game into halftime with the Owls leading by nine, 35-26.

On the first possession of the second half, Bailey Rollins hit a three to go up by 12, 38-26. A bucket in the paint from Peyton Greenlee just over halfway through the third quarter gave the Owls their largest lead of the game (16), but an 8-1 MBU run brought the deficit back to single digits with under one minute to play. The Owls and MBU headed into the final quarter with the score sitting at 56-47.

The Owls pushed back a 14-point lead just under two and a half minutes into the fourth, 67-53, but MBU cut the game to seven with 5:05 to play.

MBU pressured the Owls and went on a nine-point run while holding the Owls scoreless for three minutes to tie the game at 69 all with 1:19 to play.   

Peyton Greenlee went 2-for-2 from the foul line to take a two-point lead, but MBU knotted up the game once more. Tori Nesslage put one in in the paint to go back up, and Peyton Greenlee went 2-for-2 from the foul line once again with 5.2 on the clock to give the Owls a four-point advantage.

MBU hit a three with 2.1 on the board, but had to foul once WWU threw the ball in to stop the clock. The foul sent Ashleigh Frampton to the line for two in double bonus with one second left. Frampton sank both, ending the game with a 77-74 win.
