Softball Hosts Park to Close Out Regular Season

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team hosts Park University to close out their regular season play on Thursday, April 26 for an American Midwest Conference doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m.
 
The Owls and Pirates contest as been named the American Midwest Conference Game of the Week.
 
About the Owls
- WWU enters the contest with a 23-19 overall record and are 14-8 in the AMC
- The Owls are currently sitting in fifth place in the American Midwest Conference
- The Owls are coming off a sweep against then No. 15 Columbia College on Sunday, April 22 winning the first game 4-2 in 10 innings and 4-3 in game two. This was the first sweep of Columbia since 2012
- WWU is 10th in the NAIA in triples collecting 18 in the season. Emma Walker leads the team with five triples which is 24th best in the NAIA and Lindy Wilson is right behind her with four triples
- Emily Robinett continues to lead the Owls in hits with 50 and has a batting average of .382. She has also collected 27 runs, seven doubles, 19 RBIs and has an on base percentage of .450.
- Ali Massey is leading the Owls in RBIs with 32 and is hitting .361, second best on the team
- The WWU pitching staff has an ERA of 3.95 compared to opponents 4.28
- Allison Waskow is leading the staff with a 3.10 ERA in 117.1 innings pitched. Waskow is also leading the team in strikeouts with 61 in the season, Bre Logan coming in second with 58 punchouts
- As a team the owls are hitting .310 on the season and have six players with batting averages over .300 on the season
- Emma Walker leads the Owls in home runs on the season with six. She has hit all six home runs in the Owls last eight games
 
About the Pirates
- The Pirates are 16-19 overall and are currently 12-10 in the AMC.
- Park is currently sitting three spots behind WWU
- Park is 31st in the nation in doubles per game averaging 1.743 doubles. Katie Carr is leading the team in doubles collecting 13 in the season
- Carr is also leading the team in RBIs collecting 33 in the season. Lexie Duncan is following with 24 RBIs in the season
- Kaylin Brooks is leads the team in two categories: batting average (.371) with 43 hits as well as stolen bases collecting 11 in the season
- The Pirates pitching staff has an ERA of 5.00 compared to opponent 4.98. Opponents are hitting .329 against the pitching staff
- Lexie Duncan leads the Pirates with a 3.39 ERA in 97 innings pitched and has collected the most strikeouts with 69, averaging 4.98 strikeouts per appearance. Opponents are hitting 0.304 against Duncan.
- Park has outscored its opponents by 19 runs on the season
- The Pirates are hitting .319 on as a team and have hit 22 home runs this season
 
What's Next
The Owls will participate in the AMC Conference Tournament where the top eight teams in the American Midwest Conference will compete beginning on May 1 and will run through May 5, which will be played in Columbia, Missouri.
