Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The William Woods University men's tennis team, sponsored Fulton Medical Center, won its eighth straight match when they defeated Hastings College (Neb.), 9-0, in the First Round of the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championships.

WWU jumped out to an early lead on the Broncos as Christian Barbieri and Oscar Barreiro defeated Tim Fischer and Ben Petry 8-1 in No. 3 doubles. Javier Callejo and Christopher Vleeming Ortiz followed with an 8-6 win in No. 1 doubles. Jesus Amezcua and Stefan Simic took the third and final point in doubles with an 8-4 victory in No. 2 doubles.
 
WWU took a 4-0 lead in the match with a straight set victory in No. 2 singles when Callejo defeated Dakota Burns in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
 
Vleeming Ortiz clinched the win for the Owls with a straight set victory, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 3 singles over Carter Mason.
 
Barbieri, Esteban Duran and Nathan Cooke closed out the matches for the Owls by all claiming wins. Barbieri defeated Mehmedovic 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles. Esteban Duran followed with a win in No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over John Rohweder. Cooke closed out the match with a 7-5, 7-5 victory in No. 5 singles.
 
With the win, the Owls advance to play the eighth seed Cardinal Stritch University tomorrow in the Second Round. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
