Men’s Tennis Season Concludes in NAIA Quarterfinals

Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The William Woods University men's tennis team, sponsored by Fulton Medical Center, season came to a close on Friday morning when they Owls were knocked out of the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship by Georgia Gwinnett College in the Quarterfinals. The Owls were defeated 5-0 by the Grizzlies.
 
The Owls finish the season with a record of 16-7 and advanced to its second straight quarterfinal appearance in the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship.

The top seed and undefeated Grizzlies came out strong as they took No. 2 doubles, 8-1, over Jesus Amezcua and Stefan Simic taking a 1-0 lead. They grew the lead to 2-0 after taking No. 3 doubles, 8-2, over Christian Barbieri and Oscar Barreiro. The Owls battled in No. 1 doubles but could not get the point as Georgia Gwinnett took No. 1 doubles, 8-5, over Javier Callejo and Christopher Vleeming Ortiz.
 
The Owls could not a comeback coming in singles as the Grizzlies took No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0 over Javier Callejo. Moments later, Valentino Caratini defeated Nathan Cooke, 6-1, 6-1 in No. 6 singles clinching the match for the Grizzlies.
 
The Owls trailed in every other singles match up No. 3 singles where Christopher Vleeming Ortiz was up a set. He took set one, 6-4, but trailed 2-1 in the second set before the match was called.
