Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University men's tennis team wrapped up its preparation for the ITA Regionals on Saturday when they participated in the WashU Invitational.
 
The Owls went 5-5 in matches played yesterday against NCAA Division II Lindenwood University and NCAA Division III Washington University in St. Louis. Full results can be seen below.
 
The Owls double team of Oscar Barreiro and Aaron Westerlund were the only doubles team to win. Barreiro and Westerlund defeated Vergara and Gaspari of Lindenwood University, 8-3.
 
In singles action, Barreiro won his second match of the day. He defeated McClelland of Washington University in St. Louis in three sets. Barreiro dropped set one, 6-3, before bouncing back taking set two, 6-4. Barreiro came away with a 10-4 victory in the tiebreaker.
 
Jesus Amezcua earned a two-set victory for the Owls as he defeated Vergara from Lindenwood. Amezcua came out strong as he won 6-0 in the first set and won 6-2 in the second set.
 
Sam Bird earned the fourth win of the day for the Owls as he defeated Barrud of Lindenwood University. Bird came out and took the first set, 6-1. In the second set, Bird won 7-6 (6) taking the match.
 
Earning the last win of the day for the Owls was Zach Frisbie. Frisbie defeated Mjezinovic of Lindenwood University. Frisbie took the first set, 6-2, before taking the second set, 6-4.
 
WWU returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 20 when they open play at the ITA Central Region Championships in Milwaukee, Wis.
