Owls Volleyball Looks for 5th AMC Win as they Host Hannibal-LaGrange

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Women's Volleyball Team returns to action Thursday Oct. 10th as they host conference opponent Hannibal-LaGrange. First Serve is set for 7 p.m. in Anderson Arena.
 
About Hannibal
The Spartans enter the contest 2-18 overall and 1-3 in the American Midwest Conference which puts them in 9th place.

HBLG opened their 2019 season defeating Lincoln College (Ill.) 3-0 but lost the next 13 games straight. They captured their second win of the season on Sept. 17th win they beat Stephens 3-2. Since then, they lost six games straight with their most recent loss coming from Clarke (Iowa) where they fell 0-3.

Amber Glazebrook is currently the only Spartan with national rankings. She ranks 19th overall in the nation in digs per game (5.5) and 36th overall in total digs (32).
Janine Crooks is also playing well for Hannibal. She leads the Spartans with 135 total kills. She recorded a season high 15 kills in the victory over Stephens.

Ashlyn Spay follows closely behind with 119 total kills. She recorded her season high on Aug. 29th when she tallied in 12 kills. Spay then broke her season high the very next competition by recording 14 kills against Culver-Stockton.
 
About William Woods
Sitting 13-13 overall and 4-2 in the American Midwest Conference the Owls sit in 5th place in the AMC. After finishing 3-1 in the College of the Ozarks Tournament, WWU lost to No.1 Missouri Baptist 3-1 on Sept. 17th. They redeemed themselves the following competition by beating Harris-Stowe 3-0.  The victory was short lived as they would lose 3-1 to RV Ottawa University on Sept. 25th

After the loss to Ottawa, the Owls went on a four-game winning streak defeating Sterling College (Kan.), Lyon, Central Baptist and Stephens.  Their run would be snapped on Oct. 3rd when they fell to No. 12 Columbia 3-0.

Their most recent loss came at the hands of RV Evangel where William Woods fell 3-0.

As a team William Woods holds three Top 25 national rankings. They rank 2nd overall in total blocks (202), 18th overall in total kills (1,057) and 25th overall in total assists (960).
Jaclyn Zahn has been consistent in holding national rankings this season. She ranks 17th overall in total blocks (86) and 27th overall in blocks per game (1.1).

Remie Johnson also holds a national ranking. She sits 44th overall in total assists (616).

Leading the pack for WWU is Nise Salima who has tallied in 188 total kills this season. Hannah Kuehl follows closely behind with 171 of her own.

History Between William Woods and Hannibal
The first match between the Owls and Spartans took place on September 28, 2004. William Woods won the competition defeating Hannibal 3-0. Since then they have met 15 other times in which WWU holds a 12-4 series lead.

The Owls are currently on a 10-game winning streak against Hannibal. They look to extend it to 11 tomorrow night.
