ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team clinched the fourth-seed for the American Midwest Conference Tournament with Saturday's 87-61 win over St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The Owls grabbed their 20
th win of the season with the regular season finale.
Kaycee Gerald led the floor with 22 points, and
Peyton Greenlee had a 20-point performance.
The Owls will host the No. 5-seed Williams Baptist University in the first round of the AMC Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m.
Game Flow
The Owls powered a 12-0 lead five minutes into the first quarter. They extended it to 15 with a fast break layup by Gerald following her steal, but STLCOP cut the game to 10 before ending the quarter, 25-15.
A 7-0 run started the second quarter, putting the Owls up by 17. STLCOP hit two threes late in the quarter but
Katie French hit the final bucket of the half to send the game into halftime with the Owls leading 41-27.
Greenlee hit a three to begin the second half, and after STLCOP cut the game to 12, Gerald and Greenlee combined for seven to give the Owls a 19-point lead, 51-32.
A free throw by
Sommer Burgard gave the Owls their first 20-point lead just over halfway through the third quarter, and two good free throws from Gerald ended the third with the Owls leading 60-40.
A traditional three-point play from
Ashleigh Frampton began the scoring in the fourth quarter, and two free throws from
Lexy Ganaway gave the Owls a 24-point lead, 69-45.
STLCOP pushed a 6-0 run over the next minute, bringing the game within 18 halfway through the final quarter.
After STLCOP cut the game to 16, the Owls pushed an 8-0 run to take back a 23-point lead with 1:26 to play, 81-58.
Following a STLCOP three, the Owls scored the final six points of the game to win it 87-61.
