Owls Softball Looks for A Pair of Wins Friday Against Stephens

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball teams returns to action Friday, Mar. 22, as they host Stephens College. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the Backer Sports Complex.
 
About Stephens
The Stars have had a rough start to their 2019 campaign. They currently sit at 2-12 overall and 0-2 in the American Midwest Conference. They got their only two wins late in the season when they defeated Haskell Indian Nations University 12-10 in eight-innings and 24-0 in five-innings.
  • Macy Mclntosh leads Stephens with 14 hits on the season. She also leads the Stars with a .400 batting average. She recorded a season high three hits against Haskell.
  • Jamie Wittmer follows right behind with 13 hits of her own. She sits second on the team in batting average hitting a .351. She ranks number one overall in the nation for Fielding Pct. (1.000)
  • Desiree Fernandez is also playing very well for the Stars. In her 30 appearances, she has connected on 11 balls. She is hitting .433 and has five total RBIs.
About William Woods
After splitting a series with No. 18 Lyon, the Owls were able to snatch game two in a doubleheader against Hannibal-LaGrange. They are currently 7-14 overall and 2-4 in the AMC which puts them in eighth place.
  • As a team, WWU holds six national rankings; they rank 20th overall in total triples (9), 27th overall in Errors per Game (2.2), 33rd overall in triples per game (.43), 39th overall in putouts per game (19.8), 40th overall in earned run average (2.57) and 41st overall in innings pitched per game (6.6).
  • Anna Counts and Emma Walker are the only Owls to record a homerun this season.
  • So far this season, William Woods has allowed their opponents 88 total runs.
  • Counts is also leading WWU with 23 total hits
  • Alli Massey follows behind her with 21 hits herself. She also holds two national rankings; 40th overall in total putouts (124) and 43rd overall in total chances (132).
  • Madison Ausfahl also holds national rankings; she ranks 4th overall in innings pitched per game (6.6) and 11th overall in losses (7).
  • Brittany Roady is the final Owl to hold a national ranking. She ranks 8th overall in innings pitched per game (6.4)
