No. 10 Men's Tennis Advances to Championship Game with Two Sweeps

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 10 William Woods University men's tennis team advances to the AMC/HAAC Championship match following two 5-0 sweeps in the first two rounds. The Owls swept St. Louis College of Pharmacy 5-0 in the first round and Missouri Baptist University 5-0 in the second round.

The tournament was played to clinch, meaning the first team to five points won the match.

The Owls will face No. 25 Missouri Valley in the championship match at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, at Tower Grove Park.

The Owls swept STLCOP in doubles play, holding STLCOP from scoring a set point. 

The team needed just two more points heading into singles play to clinch the match. Patrick Shelepov in the No. 3 singles and Jack Campbell in the No. 6 singles finished first for the Owls, each sweeping their opponents, 6-0, 6-0.

Shelepov and Amezcua finished first in the No. 3 doubles, winning 8-3. Barreiro and Vleeming Ortiz swept their opponent 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles for the team's second point, and Westerlun and Callejo completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win in the No. 1 spot.

Shelepov and Esteban Duran grabbed the final two points needed to clinch the match with two 6-0, 6-0 wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively.
