Box Score HATTIESBURG, Miss. –The William Woods University softball team's season came to a close in the NAIA World Series Opening Rounds with a 5-0 loss to the No. 2-seed William Carey Tuesday. 
 
The Owls fell to the No. 1-seeded Vanguard (Calif.) on day one of the opening round to move to the first elimination game of the tournament.
 
The Owls conclude their season with a 23-27 record in the program's 19
thNAIA World Series. 
 
WCU scored in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. They added two more in the second for a 4-0 lead.
 
The Owls grabbed their first two hits of the game in the top of the fourth inning. 
Ari Arnold hit a one-out single to first base. 
Emma Walker followed with a single to right field, but a double play on the next at-bat ended the inning.
 
Celeste Sermeno singled to left field in the top of the fifth and was moved to second on an error, but both runners were left stranded.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, WCU led off with a home run over the left field fence to go up 5-0. 
 
The Owls were unable to get another runner on base in the final two innings, ending the game with a 5-0 loss.
 
Brittany Roady (14-10) pitched the complete game. She struck out seven while allowing just three earned runs.
