CANTON, Mo. – East Central College transfer Katie Gaus signed with the William Woods University softball program Friday, announced Head Coach
Tracy Gastineau.
"Katie will be a very nice addition to our program and University," stated Gastineau. " She is able to play multiple positions and has college experience in the outfield along with several infield positions. Katie is also an outstanding student that excels in the classroom. We are excited for her to join us next fall."
Gaus played one season at East Central College. In her freshman campaign, she batted an impressive .381 with a .407 on base percentage. She will play the 2020 season for the Falcons before transferring to the Owls.
In high school, Gaus spent four years on the Tiger softball team. Primarily an outfielder, Gause finished her high school career with a slew of awards.
She was a three-time First Team All-District ('14, '16, '17) recipient while earning Second Team honors in 2015. She was First Team All-Region in 2016 and Second Team All-Region in 2014 and 2017. She earned KHQA Sensational Seven recognition her sophomore and senior years, and following her junior campaign, she earned the Most Improved Award and was named to the Herald Whig All-Area Honorable Mention. She was also named to the Academic All-State team after ranking third in all of Class 1.
Gaus helped lead her team to a Class 1A State Championship her senior season. Following the semi-final state game en route to the state championship, she was tabbed the KRES Player of the Game. In her freshman campaign the team placed third at state, and her sophomore season they took fourth. All three years (2014, 2015, 2017) the team took the District, Sectional and Quarter Final titles.
A well-rounded player in high school, Gaus also played basketball and soccer and ran track.
Gaus, the daughter of Wade and Darla Gaus, intends to major in biology.
