This Month in Athletics History – August

FULTON, Mo. – To help celebrate William Woods University's 150th birthday, the athletics department will release a monthly "This Month in Athletics History" story. From the start of intercollegiate athletics in 1974-75 to now, we will take a look at some of the top highlights from each month.

  • Aug. 4, 1936 - Helen Stephens won the Olympic Gold and set the world record in the 100-meter dash with a 11.5 second race.

Our records are far from complete, so if we have left something off, have incorrect information or you have suggestions for future months, please feel free to email Alysha Hodge in the Sports Information office at alysha.hodge@williamwoods.edu.
