Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The no. 13 William Woods University men's team swept University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in the season opener this Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 win on the road.
The Owls were able to take the doubles points, winning the no. 1, no. 2, and no. 3 doubles matches.
In doubles, Aaron Westerlund paired up with Nathan Cooke, winning at no. 1 as they defeated Alvaro Montijano and Logan Mathies 7-6 with an 8-6 score in the tie-break. Ben Grumley and Patrick Shelepov took a victory over Alec Johnson and James Bamberger 6-0 in no. 2 doubles. Zach Frisbie and Robert Schorr won their no. 3 doubles match 6-0 against Anirudh Kalathil and Yosef Bedair.
In no. 1 singles, Shelepov defeated Montijano 6-1, 6-3. Grumley earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Mathies in no. 2 singles. Westerlund took down Kathil 6-0, 6-0 in no. 3 singles. Mladen Novovic, competing in no. 4 singles won 6-0, 6-0 over Bamberger. In no. 5 singles, Vitek Subert won his match against Johnson, 6-0, 6-0. Robert Schorr defeated Bedair 6-0, 6-0 in no. 6 singles.
The Owls (1-0) return to action on Friday, Feb. 26, on the road against RV Midland University in Fremont, Neb. The match time is 2 p.m.
